Traverse City Light & Power (TCLP) is a municipally owned electric and telecom utility serving approximately 13,000 electric and 900 fiber customers in beautiful Northern Michigan. Position Overview Under the general direction of the Director of Engineering and Operations, the Line Superintendent leads all field operations associated with the construction, operation, maintenance, and restoration of TCLP's electric transmission and distribution system, service lines, and substation assets. The position provides direct leadership and accountability for workforce performance, safety, resource allocation, project execution, emergency response, and system reliability. The Line Superintendent establishes priorities, coordinates personnel and equipment, manages daily and long-range work plans, and works collaboratively with other departments and contractors. Key Responsibilities Execute planned work as required to efficiently repair and maintain electric transmission and distribution systems. Receive work orders, review job sites for readiness and resource requirements. Provide direct supervision to Line Department employees and others as assigned, including assigning and directing work, managing performance, coaching and training employees, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, and addressing employee relations and disciplinary matters as needed. Perform scheduling activities in the absence of the Scheduling & Operations Coordinator. Assist with necessary permits for construction. Implement maintenance systems for electric facilities. Assist with identification and prioritization of system reliability projects to reduce customer outages, outage durations, and damage to Company equipment. Direct all line crews during storm restoration activities; identify and request storm-related resources. Recommend and specify tools and major equipment needed and work with the Director of Engineering & Operations on associated budgeting. Approve purchases of equipment and materials following prescribed guidelines. Coordinate tool calibration, testing and repair. Coordinate fleet of vehicles and equipment, including procurement, preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and recordkeeping. Work with vendors to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. Qualifications Associate's degree in electrical technology, Utility Operations, Electrical Engineering Technology, Business Management, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. A combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position may be considered in lieu of a degree. At least ten years' experience in electrical distribution system construction, operations, repair, and maintenance, or related field. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience. State of Michigan Vehicle Operator's License Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of electric distribution and transmission. Thorough knowledge of electric system design, repair, and maintenance. Considerable knowledge of National Electric Safety Codes, OSHA regulations, and other codes and regulations governing power transmission and distribution. Ability to prioritize and work effectively in emergencies, and during non-standard business hours. Additional Preferred Qualifications Qualifications of a Journeyman Line Worker including a Journeyman Line Worker card, or equivalent. Commercial driver's license (CDL) with Class A endorsement.
