The Maintenance and Operations Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the work operations of the Utilities Systems Shop in the Maintenance & Operations Section of Engineering Service at the Marion Campus which includes boiler plant, plumbing and piping operations. Provides necessary inspections, documentation, follow-up action and training to meet all Joint Commission, OSHA, AWE, VACO, VISN, and required medical center safety programs.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, crawling and climbing. Incumbent must have good vision, with or without glasses. May lift or carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items over 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:

Incumbent may work from ladders, scaffolding, and/or hydraulic platforms. This position requires working in uncontrolled environments, in inclement weather conditions, and in confined or uncomfortable spaces. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant odors. Occasionally is subject to possible dangerous working conditions including exposure to hazards normally encountered in the hospital trades and various types of infections. May be subject to electrical shock and/or electrical burns, cuts, bruises, and strains. Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks in a safe manner. Work progress, inspection, and supervision requires regular and recurring exertion including walking, standing, bending, climbing, etc. Management and administrative work is typically performed in an office setting around the Engineering environment. Incumbent must have good vision and dexterity and be able to explain complex procedures to staff.
