Job DescriptionAssistant Superintendent - New Haven, INThis is a salaried, exempt-level rolePosition Summary The Assistant Superintendent supports the Plant Superintendent in leading daily operations and maintenance of the New Haven grain elevator. This position plays a key role in ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and reliably through strong maintenance planning, equipment reliability programs, and operational oversight. The Assistant Superintendent ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, etc.) while developing and supporting hourly team members.

Key Responsibilities Lead maintenance operations to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent equipment failures Manage spare parts inventory and maintain an organized storeroom Track and analyze maintenance performance metrics using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or similar tool Partner with the Plant Superintendent to identify and execute maintenance projects and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, safety, and cost efficiency Apply strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to maintain production systems, utilities, buildings, and grounds Coordinate daily grain elevator operations, including loading, unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, and storage of grain Execute daily operational plans and prioritize shift activities to optimize resources and productivity Support operational schedules, including housekeeping and preventive maintenance planning Step in to support operations during off-hours or weekends as business needs require Promote and enforce workplace safety and environmental compliance in all operations Identify and mitigate safety and environmental hazards to protect employees, product quality, and environmental integrity Ensure all employees, visitors, vendors, and contractors follow safety policies and procedures Lead and train hourly employees in equipment operation, maintenance practices, and safety standards Foster strong communication, teamwork, and morale across shifts and departments Maintain accurate records and documentation for safety, maintenance, and operational compliance
Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED 2-3 years of experience leading or supporting maintenance or operations in an industrial, agricultural, or manufacturing environment Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills Experience with preventive or reliability-centered maintenance practices Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS or similar maintenance tracking systems Effective leadership, communication, and coaching abilities Knowledge of safety compliance, job hazard analysis, and regulatory standards
Preferred:
Experience managing maintenance projects or continuous improvement initiatives Familiarity with asset management and reliability best practices Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills Bachelor's degree preferred Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to lift and transport up to 55 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces. Work may occur indoors and outdoors year-round in dusty, noisy, or potentially hazardous environments. Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirator when necessary.
Typical schedule:
Monday-Friday, 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM; additional hours, weekends, or shift coverage as required by harvest or rail schedules. Excited about this role but don't think you meet every requirement listed?
