Job Description

Responsible for management and oversight of the City's Garage Department, including maintenance, repair, modification, and procurement of municipal vehicles and equipment. Ensures productive, safe, efficient, and customer-oriented operations that support all City departments. Oversees fleet maintenance programs, radio communication equipment maintenance, long-range planning, budget development, asset lifecycle projections, and departmental productivity. The Garage Manager shall create policies and procedures to ensure the orderly, safe, and customer-friendly operation of all garage services. Starting annual pay $86,268. Provided benefits include but are not limited to health insurance, group life insurance, wellness program, and CERS retirement administered by the Kentucky Public Pensions Authority . Paid time off includes vacation, sick time, and holidays (for eligible employees). Oversees all Garage Department operations, including procurement, repair, maintenance, modification of municipal vehicles, and support for Transit Garage needs during routine and emergency situations. Develops and manages fleet-related plans, budgets, lifecycle projections, surplus asset disposal, and cost-tracking systems while continuously evaluating and improving departmental procedures. Prepares bid specifications, reports, and documentation; coordinates daily work orders; and addresses customer issues, complaints, and service requests. A High School diploma or GED is required, while a Bachelor's degree in Business, Auto Mechanics, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates must have at least six years of supervisory or management experience and possess strong technical knowledge of vehicle maintenance, cost projections, budgeting, and oversight of large expenditures. The role requires proven supervisory ability and experience developing staff. A valid driver's license is required, and the employee must obtain a Kentucky CDL Class B or higher within 11 months of employment.
