ABOUT THIS JOB
This position is in D05 Maintenance Section/U540 and reports directly to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent. Applicants with the following experience, skills, and abilities are encouraged to apply: Operation of single and double-axle dump trucks, front-end loader, tractor w/ cutter, excavator or backhoe, asphalt roller, asphalt distributor, bobcat w/attachments, computer, and Personal Data Assistance. Knowledgeable in the safe operation of passenger vehicles as well as other equipment operated by Highway Foreman 1. Ability to communicate both verbally and non-verbally in an effective manner to supervisor and subordinates. At time of appointment, possess and maintain licensing in the following areas: Class "A" CDL. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Job Duties:
Supervises the Mobile Equipment Operators performing maintenance to the highways and bridges. Prepares daily labor and equipment report. Orders materials daily. Guides and instructs assigned personnel to see that Highway Standards are met. Conducts routine administration meetings and training. Works emergencies at night. May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
The incumbent may be required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as maintain the following licensing: 1. Must maintain a Class A CDL license and meet all structured training requirements 2. Random drug testing is required 3. Will need computer skills, cell phone, and PDA knowledge for performing regular job duties 4. Requires night-time operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work hours 5. Lifting of a maximum of 50 pounds will be required. Manual lifting of more than 50 pounds requires assistance

Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.
