Facilities & Maintenance Director, Becket, MA Full-Time, Year-Round Position About Camp Watitoh Since 1937, Camp Watitoh has been a warm, family-oriented, traditional co-ed overnight camp nestled on 90 picturesque acres surrounding crystal-clear Center Lake in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts. We are seeking a dedicated, hands-on Facilities & Maintenance Director to oversee the care, daily operation, and ongoing improvement of our campus and facilities. This critical leadership role is ideal for a skilled professional who takes pride in maintaining high standards across all property operations and keeping camp running safely and smoothly year-round.

Property Overview Location:

Becket, MA Campus:

Over 150 acres of waterfront property on Center Lake, featuring residential cabins, athletic fields, activity facilities, program areas, and a full maintenance workshop. Schedule Overview September - April (Off-Season): Focus on building renovations, remodeling, capital improvement projects, seasonal winterization/opening, and overall grounds upkeep. May - August (Camp Season): Focus on daily facility operations, rapid repairs, safety compliance, and responsive on-call support (including extended hours, weekends, and evenings as needed during camp).

Key Responsibilities Property & Facility Care:

Oversee the total maintenance of buildings, grounds, athletics fields, waterfront areas, and equipment.

Hands-on Tradeswork:

Perform carpentry, framing, general plumbing, basic electrical work, and minor mechanical repairs.

Team Leadership:

Manage and supervise year-round maintenance staff as well as additional seasonal maintenance employees during the summer.

Capital Projects & Contractors:

Manage major facility upgrades, obtain quotes, source materials, and coordinate/supervise external vendors and contractors.

Budgeting & Planning:

Track and manage facility maintenance budgets and expenses. Partner with the Camp Director to develop a comprehensive 12-month maintenance calendar.

Safety & Compliance:

Enforce and model safe work practices, proper tool handling, motorized equipment operation, and risk management guidelines.

Qualifications & Skills Preferred Experience:

Minimum 5+ years in facilities management, building construction, or property maintenance.

Trades Expertise:

Strong carpentry and general construction skills preferred; working knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, and small engine repair.

Grounds Knowledge:

Experience with landscaping, athletic field maintenance, drainage/water flow, and septic systems is a strong plus.

Leadership & Independence:

Proven ability to manage a team, prioritize urgent vs. long-term tasks, and work independently.

Requirements:

Valid Driver's License. Verifiable work history and professional references. Ability to pass a background check. Licensed CSL (Construction Supervisor License Unrestricted) is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, and work in varied weather conditions. Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50+ lbs regularly. Comfortable operating maintenance machinery, power tools, lawn care equipment, and lifts.

Compensation & Benefits Salary:

Competitive salary based on experience ($65,000 - $70,000+ per year, commensurate with background).
