Summary Serving under the direct leadership of the Director of Public Works, the Public Works Crew Lead is a working lead, responsible for contributing to the management of the operation, maintenance and improvement of the infrastructure; supervising the operation of public works; operation of non-commercial and commercial weight vehicles with or without trailers (over 26,000 lbs.); performing skilled labor; using hand tools, including the operation and maintenance of various small gas powered hydraulic and/or electrically operated machinery and equipment; repairing of water and sewer infrastructure; performing street repairs; and maintenance of the parks and building, as necessary. This individual reports directly to the Director of Public Works. General Requirements

• Supervises the daily activities carried out by personnel of the Public Works department, assuring quality control and performance.
• Provide safety-related training and ensure the practice of safety principles in the workplace.
• Plans and performs diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance for equipment, machinery, vehicles and tools. Maintain D.O.T. compliance on all required vehicles.
• Operate and maintain vehicles with or without trailers that require a CDL license.
• Maintains all records of operation, maintenance problems, and corrective actions, as well as records of planned and completed maintenance.
• Maintains inventory controls of all parts, supplies and materials in the Public Works department.
• Maintain traffic flagging certification records and perform flagging operation.
• Works as lead crewmember in all digging and repairing of drainage ditches/culverts; erection and repair of maintenance street signs; and loading and unloading of equipment and supplies.
• Maintain public streets, as well as water and sewer infrastructure.
• Support for all town events and activities, including installation of holiday decorations and event set-up/take-down.
• Perform general manual labor duties, including but not limited to: repair, maintenance and painting of building and other structures; digging holes; snow removal; brush and tree pruning; mulching; sidewalk edging; parking lot stripping, including ADA compliant parking spaces; etc.
• Operation of a variety of motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Adhere to the Town of Snow Hill Personnel Rules and Regulations.
• Perform other related duties as directed. Qualifications and Skills
• High school graduate or equivalency with 3-5 years progressive experience as a Foreman, Crew Leader, or Supervisor.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with co-workers and the general public.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and prepare reports.
• Must have knowledge of OSHA and MOSH safety requirements, regulations and guidelines.
• Must have knowledge equipment operation and safety operating practices.
• Ability to operate a variety of motor vehicles and heavy equipment, including trucks, forklift, street sweeper, etc. and train others on their proper use.
• Must be computer literate with an ability to maintain accurate records and files.
• Ability to motivate subordinates and work harmoniously with other officials and agencies.
• Must be a team player with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Must possess a valid Maryland Class A CDL driver's license and driving record of less than 4 points.

The position starts at $23.00 per hour and can increase depending on experience.
