Confidential Opportunity with a Large Import Automotive Group A large import automotive group in Michigan is conducting a confidential search for an experienced Service Director to provide strategic leadership for its service operations. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a proven fixed-operations professional who knows how to develop managers, build high-performing teams, improve profitability, and deliver an exceptional customer experience. The ideal candidate is a strong leader, coach, and trainer who can establish clear expectations, develop employees at every level, and create a culture built around accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership and direction for the service operation. Lead, coach, and develop Service Managers, Service Advisors, Technicians, and support staff. Identify and develop future leaders within the organization. Establish clear performance expectations and maintain accountability throughout the department. Implement training programs focused on leadership, sales, customer service, and operational excellence. Recruit, onboard, develop, and retain top service talent. Drive profitability, labor sales, customer retention, and sustainable department growth. Monitor and improve key performance indicators, including CSI, effective labor rate, hours per repair order, technician productivity, efficiency, capacity, and retention. Evaluate staffing, scheduling, workflow, dispatching, and shop capacity to maximize production. Develop strategies to increase customer-pay, warranty, and internal service business. Ensure consistent execution of departmental processes and performance standards. Maintain compliance with manufacturer requirements, dealership policies, and applicable regulations. Partner with Parts, Sales, and executive leadership to improve total dealership performance. Review financial statements, forecasts, budgets, expenses, and departmental results. Resolve escalated customer concerns professionally and effectively. Maintain a safe, organized, professional, and performance-driven work environment. Qualifications Previous automotive Service Director or senior Service Manager experience is required. Import or franchise dealership experience is preferred. Proven success leading and growing a high-volume automotive service operation. Demonstrated ability to develop managers and build high-performing teams. Strong financial knowledge, including experience with budgets, forecasts, expenses, and departmental profitability. Thorough understanding of fixed operations, manufacturer requirements, and dealership service processes. Proven ability to improve profitability, productivity, customer satisfaction, and retention. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with dealership management systems, reporting tools, and service software. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
