POSITION SUMMARY

Second-shift Weld/Fab position with a start time of 5:00-5:30 PM. Employees are expected to follow established Merrill processes and procedures, maintain quality and safety standards, and monitor workflow within the department to ensure production stays on schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ability to work approximately 44-55 hours per week. Ability to receive feedback and learn from others. Performs acceptable quality level checks on product produced in accordance with the Merrill Quality Manual. Safe operation of overhead crane and associated lifting devices for Class I Operator, including pre-shift checks. Paperwork is timely, accurate, and complete. Ability to read complex blueprints. Effectively monitors overall workflow within the department and takes effective corrective action to prevent or minimize disruptions. Accomplishes daily shop schedules and meets productivity requirements. Deals effectively with sudden changes in daily priorities. Proactively anticipates production problems and takes action to minimize them. Effectively matches employee skills with job assignments. Directs department to consistently meet productivity goals. Communicates problems and issues promptly with appropriate management. Attends and conducts meetings as required. Plans and implements department work in a logical and organized manner. Communicates company policies and procedures. Ensures employees receive necessary training to be effective in their job assignments. Has knowledge of all facets of the department. Reliable, consistent work attendance is mandatory. Knows and enforces Quality Control standards and policies. Knows and enforces Safety standards and policies. Requires all employees to always wear required PPE. Requires and enforces good housekeeping in area of responsibility. Knowledgeable in setup and adjustment of welding equipment. Knowledgeable in welding machine repair, lead changing, tip replacement, and wire changing. Knows meaning of welding symbols on blueprints. Knowledgeable in use of lifting chains and clamps. Knowledgeable in use of torching equipment, torch settings, and regulator settings. Consistently maintains acceptable production level for skill level. Quality of welding meets company quality requirements. Proficient at welding basic structural beams, frames, etc. Has successfully completed 1/16" fillet test. Has successfully completed Full Pen test. Has successfully completed 1/16" vertical up Full Pen test. Has successfully completed 3/32" Full Pen test. Knows how to correctly use twist and slugger drills. Knows how to correctly use hand grinders. Knowledgeable in use of all required weld gauges. Skilled in use of tape measure and fractions. Knows proper preheat usage and requirements. Knowledgeable of shop bolts, sizes and requirements. Has good working knowledge of all weld procedures. Knowledgeable of welding gases and their effect on material being welded. Proficient at plugging incorrect hole size and location of incorrect holes. Performs welding of more complex pieces. Knowledge of air arcing. Knowledge of multiple pass welding. Performs proficiently all items listed in Fit/Weld I - Technical Fabrication. Ability to fabricate more complex beams and columns. Ability to fabricate basic frames. Understands blueprint section views and their relevance to fabrication. Proficient in the use of all fabrication tools required in fabrication. Performs appropriate checking of parts before installation. Knowledgeable of sub-assembly parts to beam requirements. Correctly positions basic parts on beams and columns per blueprint. Knows how to complete required paperwork for production and quality reasons. Organizes and prioritizes work and assigns tasks as required. Keeps flow of raw material into production departments moving to prevent delays. Good working knowledge of all fabrication equipment used in department. Reads tape measure accurately and can verify tape measure accuracy against the standard. Ensures all team members are operating their equipment within acceptable parameters. Successfully passed

Visual Inspection of Welds. Associated paperwork is made available to team and checked for accuracy at completion of work. Ability to schedule workforce to meet production demands. Proactively reviews work and creates plans to improve efficiency. Ensures all pre-shift checks are completed in their area. Ability to cover the Team Lead role in their absence. Ability to help out in other areas/departments when needed. Accountability — Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions. Pay:

$26.92 - $31.30 per hour
