Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school, supplemented by technical vocational automotive equipment maintenance training and six years experience in skilled automotive/truck repair work, including two years of supervisory experience. Ability to diagnose causes of defective operations and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, and the general public.

AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, organizes, and directs the vehicle maintenance operation of the school system. Supervises all road mechanics, paint and body shop mechanics and fuel island operations. Assigns employees to teams or work units, monitors performance and provides performance coaching; participates in the selection and evaluation of employees. Schedules vehicles for preventive maintenance and repairs. Inspects maintenance activities for quality, safety, and adherence to established regulations and procedures. Gives technical advice and assistance to mechanics on difficult jobs; inspects work in progress and upon completion for adherence to standards. Approves the requisition of high cost parts by the road mechanics. Coordinates the acquisition of special tools for use by road mechanics. Possesses responsibility for accountability and inventory of all fixed assets in Transportation. Supervises Electronic Maintenance Technicians. Coordinates employee-training programs to insure proper methods and techniques, and adherence to laws and regulations. Coordinates prioritization and plans for major vehicle and equipment overhauls in conjunction with other departmental personnel. Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties. Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing fairness. Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
: Must be able to perform medium lifting exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required. Must possess a valid NC Commercial driver's license with endorsements. Must possess or obtain a NC Safety and Emissions Inspection Certificate. Must possess ability to handle complex assignments with little or no assistance. Strong ability to adapt to changing technology and priorities. Must obtain NC School Bus Inspection Certification. Must provide basic automotive tool kit. REV 04/25
