Maintenance Superintendent Summary The Controls Technician / Scale Technician Supervisor is responsible for supervising maintenance mechanics and scale technicians while providing hands-on technical support for plant automation, controls, weighing systems, and electrical equipment. This position ensures the reliable operation of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, scales, conveyors, and process control systems throughout the facility. The role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities to maximize equipment uptime, product accuracy, food safety, and employee performance. Key Requirements Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor controls, and automation infrastructure; diagnose and resolve electrical/control failures to minimize downtime Oversee operation, maintenance, and calibration of production and shipping scales, including indicators, load cells, printers, and weighing software Directly supervise Shipping and Scale technicians; utilize CMMS to manage work orders, preventive maintenance, and reporting Ensure compliance with OSHA, USDA, and GMP requirements; promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, and refrigerated environments, including flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Industrial Automation, Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, or equivalent experience Knowledge of Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk, CMMS, and Siemens control systems Experience with industrial Ethernet, SCADA, and vision systems
Preferred Skills:
Prior supervisory or lead experience in a plant maintenance or controls environment Experience in a food processing or USDA-regulated facility Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and
