Job Description
General Foreman

Roles and Responsibilities:
Monitors work force at assigned locations to coordinate maintenance and cleanup activities and to ensure equipment is inspected in accordance with FRA andNJ TRANSIT
regulations. Establishes overtime plan and vacation coverage, etc., and monitors for compliance. Interacts with both the Mechanical Desk and Transportation Department to coordinate proper equipment manipulation, shop moves and emergency repairs to maximize service to NJ TRANSIT's customers. Monitors information and data to ensure it is properly entered and maintained in the Rail Asset Management System (RAMS). Ensures employees are properly trained and utilizing the system to document work performed, serialized components and other maintenance practices. Oversees training programs for Mechanical personnel in assigned areas to assure Mechanical personnel are properly trained on new technologies. Promotes a positive labor/management relationship with subordinates. Develops and monitors material usage and availability to assure timely repairs of defective equipment to minimize equipment shortages. Monitors work location and all assigned employees to assure compliance with allNJ TRANSIT
Safety Rules, Regulations, and Hazards. Implements corrective actions and documents observations on a consistent basis. Investigates unusual occurrences documenting the incident to determine root cause and takes corrective action to prevent a similar incident.Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
High School Diploma, or equivalent, and five (5) years of progressive rail equipment/maintenance experience, including previous supervisory experience. Mechanical trade school or (2) years of experience working with mechanical systems may be substituted for one (1) year of rail equipment/ maintenance experience.
