Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic team as a Marine Mechanic Shop Foreman, where you'll lead and oversee the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of boats, outboards, inboards and sterndrive engines. This role is vital in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of marine vessels and systems. As a key leader in our maintenance department, you will coordinate technicians, manage complex repairs, and uphold the highest standards of quality and safety. Responsibilities Supervise daily shop operations, ensuring timely and accurate maintenance and repairs of marine engines, propulsion systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components. Lead troubleshooting efforts using schematics, technical drawings, and diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and calipers to identify issues accurately. Oversee the interpretation of technical manuals, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides to facilitate effective repairs. Coordinate with team members to perform rigging, fabrication, welding, soldering, sheet metal work, and assembly tasks with precision. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety protocols including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to industry standards. Manage inventory levels of hand tools, power tools, heavy lifting equipment, and other maintenance supplies to support ongoing operations. Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients or vessel crews regarding repair status and technical solutions. Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance logs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Experience Proven service technician experience in marine or heavy equipment repair environments. Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in marine engine repair, mechanical systems repair, and marine propulsion systems maintenance. Skilled in electrical diagnostics, ship electrical systems maintenance, marine electrical troubleshooting, and interpreting schematics. Ability to use precision measuring instruments like calipers and ohmmeters accurately. Knowledge of safety procedures including PPE use during heavy lifting or hazardous tasks. Strong customer service skills combined with sales aptitude for parts or service recommendations when appropriate.
