POSITON SUMMARY:
This position is accountable for directing all maintenance activities related to the electronic revenue and bus technology equipment for both MTA Bus and NYCT depot locations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing the repair, inspection, installation, and tracking of over 1,300 fareboxes, 3,000+ bus validators and various other new bus technology equipment. Enforcing policies and procedures for newly integrated electronic revenue control and bus technology equipment. Directing maintenance strategies to test, implement and maintain equipment in a State of Good Repair (SOGR). Reviewing performance indicators and make adjustments to operations ensuring optimal performance is achieved to meet the goals of the agency. Handling the coordination of all maintenance and support departments with the receipt and distribution of equipment that is installed on buses used in revenue service. Assisting the Bus Technology department with transitioning vendor maintenance responsibilities when warranty contracts expire. Monitoring budget activities related to parts inventory costs and overtime. Negotiating and coordinating picks with union officials and labor relations personnel when necessary. Managing staff in both represented and non-represented titles. Directing staff on all administrative functions for payroll, randoms, time and attendance matters, staff training.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs and instructs all revenue staff regarding the completion of preventative maintenance functions within MTA Bus depot locations. Directs all maintenance activities related to bus revenue, modems, APC, Bus Cameras, USB, ethernet cables equipment tracking and functionality monitoring. Enforces policies and procedures related to tracking movement of revenue equipment. Instructs hourly and supervisory staff on policies and procedures developed to test and implement equipment to optimize performance and maintain equipment in a SOGR status. Coordinates and manages outside vendor contracts regarding OMNY validator, speak-easy repairs, and new bus technology equipment. Conducts depot visits and meets with management to ensure the needs of the depot are being met. Evaluates staffing needs daily to provide the depot with appropriate coverage. Facilitates staff development ensuring all new farebox mechanics and/or supervisors receive proper training. Mentors' new supervisors so they can meet the needs of the operations. Conducts interviews for new hires and negotiates special work assignments with union representatives. Manages and authorizes overtime to meet the department needs. Reviews the departments payroll for discrepancies before submitting to the payroll department for processing. Manages employee availability by reviewing day off requests. Ensures the correct amounts of pay for mechanics and supervisors are paid in a timely manner. Closes out the CMF Farebox deviation sheets and reconciles the facility overtime scheduling forms to ensure overtime is properly utilized and justified. Functions as the department's revenue equipment parts planner. Manages an annual budget. Monitors inventory parts usage to determine if supervisors are drawing out the proper number of parts required for preventative maintenance. Adjusts the revenue equipment forecast to ensure proper levels of inventory are maintained. Instructs the procurement department to submit requisitions requesting contracts on fast moving consumable parts.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Science (BA/BS) in Business Administration, Transportation, Electronic Engineering or a satisfactory equivalent. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in electronic maintenance, transit maintenance operations, or a related technical field. Minimum 4 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity, with responsibility for supervising staff or projects, or administrative functions.
DESIRED SKILLS
Valid NYS Driver's License. Must have knowledge of electronic maintenance and revenue collection equipment. Must possess excellent written and communication skills. The ability to write policy and procedures for existing processes and new equipment installation. Experience with budget and performance indicators to make appropriate adjustments to operations when needed. Good problem-solving skills

Final salary is determined experience, skillset, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve. To be eligible for consideration for a new role, current MTA employees must complete at least one year of service in their current role prior to applying.
