Job Description

The Town of Rhinebeck is seeking to fill one (1) full-time position for a Assistant Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. This is a competitive class position, and the Town is seeking to hire an employee on a "provisional" basis. The successful candidate will be required to meet the minimum qualifications, as stated below, and once the competitive exam is offered, they will be required to take the exam and obtain a high enough score to be "reachable" on the competitive list.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists the Supervisor of Building and Grounds in the daily operations of the department, including overseeing all maintenance operations, facility construction and reconstruction projects, and seasonal and ice control activities;
  • Participates in building construction work, repair, or alteration of original construction;
  • Directs and participates in snow and ice control activities, tree, and decorative planting and pruning, and athletic field maintenance;
  • Maintain the Town's pool complex and make repairs to the pool system, when needed;
  • May operate a variety of vehicles, tractor, heavy snowplow, excavator, backhoe, and related equipment;
  • Make periodic inspections of the Town's buildings, recreation fields, pool, and other facilities;
  • Does related work as required by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years in the field of construction, building trades work, or general building maintenance. A successful candidate for this position must be a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or must be able to obtain the certification within 6 months of hire. The 2026 hourly wage for this position is between $29.00-$34.00 per hour.
