Dayton, OH 45404 $30.00 - $40.00 per hour Full-time | Day Shift About the Role Mar-Vel Tool is looking for an experienced Machine Shop Foreman / CNC Lead to help lead the day-to-day operation of our machine shop. This is a hands-on, working leadership position . We are not looking for someone who wants to manage the shop from an office. The right person will be comfortable directing employees, setting priorities, solving problems on the floor, programming equipment, assisting with setups and stepping onto a machine when necessary to keep production moving. We operate in a custom machining and Tool & Die environment where priorities can change quickly. We need someone who can bring organization, accountability and strong machining knowledge to the shop floor. The successful candidate needs to be able to lead experienced machinists while also having the technical ability to help solve machining and programming problems. Responsibilities Lead the day-to-day activities of the machine shop. Assign work and establish priorities for machinists. Keep jobs moving according to customer delivery requirements. Review workload, manpower and machine availability. Coordinate shop priorities with management. Identify scheduling, capacity or manpower issues before they become problems. Provide technical direction to machinists. Troubleshoot machining, setup and programming issues. Program CNC equipment using Fusion 360. Assist with CNC setups and prove-outs. Operate CNC and manual machining equipment when required. Help with difficult or time-sensitive machining jobs. Monitor quality and workmanship throughout the shop. Ensure manufactured parts meet print and customer requirements. Ensure machinists have the tooling, material, programs and information required to complete their work. Help train and develop machinists and new employees. Maintain accountability for productivity, quality and attendance. Identify equipment and maintenance issues that could affect production. Maintain a clean, organized and safe shop. Support continuous improvement throughout the operation. Working Foreman Expectations This position is intended to be a working foreman role . There will be times when the Foreman is expected to fill a gap in production, help recover a late job or assist a machinist with a difficult setup or program. The successful candidate should be comfortable walking up to a machine, reviewing the print and program, understanding the problem and helping determine the best way forward. You must be willing and able to work alongside the team when production requires it. The goal of this position is to keep the entire shop productive, organized and moving forward. Required Machining Experience Candidates must have strong hands-on machining experience.
The following experience is required:
Hurco CNC machining experience Haas CNC machining experience Boring mill machining experience Fusion 360 CNC programming experience CNC machine setup experience CNC programming and program troubleshooting Tooling selection Speeds and feeds Fixturing and workholding Precision machining Inspection and measurement Ability to read and understand detailed manufacturing drawings Candidates should be capable of taking a job from a manufacturing drawing through programming, setup and machining. Required Leadership Experience Previous experience in one or more of the following roles is strongly preferred: Machine Shop Foreman Shop Foreman Lead Machinist CNC Lead Manufacturing Supervisor Tool Room Supervisor Tool & Die Supervisor The successful candidate must be comfortable: Assigning work. Setting shop priorities. Directing machinists. Holding employees accountable. Addressing performance issues. Helping train employees. Making day-to-day shop decisions. Communicating problems and priorities to management. Technical Qualifications Strong CNC machining background. Strong understanding of milling operations. Boring mill experience. Experience programming CNC equipment using Fusion 360. Experience with Hurco controls and equipment. Experience with Haas controls and equipment. Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings. Strong understanding of tolerances and GD&T. Strong knowledge of precision measuring equipment. Knowledge of tooling, cutters and machining strategies. Knowledge of fixturing and workholding. Ability to troubleshoot machining problems. Ability to troubleshoot CNC programs. Ability to improve machining processes and cycle times. Ability to organize multiple jobs with changing priorities. Candidates should be comfortable working in a job shop where different jobs, materials, tolerances and priorities are part of the daily workload. Schedule Full-time, day shift. Overtime may be available or required depending on workload and customer requirements. Compensation $30.00 - $40.00 per hour Compensation will depend on machining experience, programming ability and previous leadership experience.
