About us: Al-Huda School is a private non-profit Islamic educational institution located in Camp Hill, PA. We strive to provide quality Islamic education for preschool through 12th grade. Our mission is to develop well-rounded students inspired by Islamic principles, excellent academics, and extracurricular activities, while seeking to prepare our students to live a God centered life rooted in the teachings of the Quran and authentic sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Position Summary We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Maintenance Manager to oversee the daily maintenance, repair, and general operation of our school facility.
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for maintaining a safe, functional, clean, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, visitors, and the community. This position requires someone who is comfortable performing general maintenance work while also coordinating outside contractors and service vendors when repairs require specialized or licensed trades.
The ideal candidate should be proactive and able to identify maintenance concerns before they develop into larger or more costly problems. Primary Responsibilities General Building Maintenance Perform routine inspections of the building, grounds, mechanical spaces, classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and other facility areas. Complete and manage maintenance/service tickets in a timely manner. Perform general repairs involving doors, locks, hardware, ceiling tiles, walls, flooring, fixtures, furniture, shelving, and other building components. Perform minor carpentry, patching, painting, caulking, and general building repairs. Maintain exterior areas and identify issues involving sidewalks, parking areas, fencing, gates, drainage, exterior lighting, and building envelope conditions. Respond to urgent facility issues and assist with emergency maintenance situations when necessary. HVAC & Mechanical Inspect HVAC equipment for obvious operational or maintenance concerns. Replace HVAC air filters according to the facility's preventive maintenance schedule. Inspect mechanical rooms and report abnormal equipment conditions, leaks, noises, temperatures, or alarms. Check condensate drains, pumps, belts, filters, and other routine service items where appropriate. Coordinate HVAC contractors for repairs and preventive maintenance requiring specialized service. Maintain basic HVAC maintenance records and filter replacement schedules. Plumbing Perform minor plumbing repairs such as replacing faucets, toilet components, flush valves, supply lines, traps, and other serviceable fixtures. Address minor drain blockages and leaks. Inspect restrooms, mechanical rooms, kitchens, and other plumbing areas for leaks or abnormal conditions. Shut down/isolate water when necessary during emergencies and coordinate licensed plumbing contractors for larger repairs. Electrical & Lighting Replace lamps, bulbs, switches, receptacle covers, and other basic electrical components where permitted. Troubleshoot basic lighting and electrical issues within the limits of the position's qualifications. Inspect interior and exterior lighting and coordinate repairs. Report electrical hazards immediately. Coordinate licensed electricians for work requiring permits, licensing, panel work, or specialized electrical repairs. Preventive Maintenance Develop, maintain, and follow a preventive maintenance schedule for major building equipment and systems. Maintain service records for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pumps, mechanical equipment, doors, and other facility assets. Track upcoming inspections, scheduled maintenance, filter changes, and equipment service. Identify aging or failing equipment and provide recommendations to management before major failures occur. Assist management with planning repairs, replacements, and facility improvement projects. Work Orders & Service Tickets Receive, prioritize, track, and complete facility service requests. Document work performed and materials used. Communicate the status of outstanding work orders to management. Prioritize emergency, life-safety, classroom, and operational issues appropriately. Follow up to ensure reported problems have been completely resolved. Vendors & Contractors Coordinate access for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, elevator, pest control, roofing, landscaping, and other service contractors. Meet contractors on-site and clearly communicate the facility issue or required scope. Monitor contractor work and report concerns to management. Verify that contracted work has been completed before closing out the service request. Assist management with obtaining estimates and identifying appropriate repair options. Safety & Facility Inspections Conduct routine facility walkthroughs to identify safety and maintenance concerns. Keep mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, storage spaces, and maintenance areas organized and accessible. Identify trip hazards, water leaks, damaged doors, lighting failures, ceiling damage, and other potential safety concerns. Assist with preparation for building, fire, health, insurance, and other required facility inspections. Immediately report serious safety or life-safety concerns to management. School Operations Work around the school's schedule to minimize disruption to students and staff. Assist with room setups, furniture moves, events, and facility preparations when required. Coordinate maintenance activities around school events, programs, holidays, and building closures. Maintain professional conduct when working around students, parents, staff, vendors, and community members. Protect school property, equipment, tools, keys, and access credentials. Management & Leadership Expectations The Maintenance Manager is expected to take ownership of the condition of the facility , not simply respond to individual repair requests.
The successful candidate should: Perform regular building walkthroughs without waiting for problems to be reported. Maintain an organized list of open maintenance items and priorities. Communicate clearly with management regarding building conditions and needed repairs. Recognize when a repair can be handled internally versus when a licensed contractor is required. Coordinate and follow up with vendors until work is completed. Help control maintenance costs by addressing problems early. Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance tools, filters, replacement parts, and commonly used supplies. Provide recommendations for improving building reliability, safety, and efficiency. Qualifications Previous experience in commercial, institutional, educational, property management, facilities maintenance, or a related field preferred. Working knowledge of general building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment. Ability to read basic equipment information, service documentation, and maintenance instructions. Ability to prioritize multiple service requests and projects. Good communication, organization, and documentation skills. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Basic computer/smartphone skills for work orders, emails, photographs, and maintenance documentation. Valid driver's license preferred. Experience working in a school, religious institution, commercial building, campus, or similar facility is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to walk throughout a large facility and property regularly. Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work in mechanical areas. Ability to lift and move maintenance materials, equipment, and supplies. Ability to perform physical maintenance activities throughout the workday. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
