POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, perform general building and grounds maintenance and tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assist workers at work site by transporting materials and tools; assist with projects of varying nature within specialized areas of maintenance and repair work; receive direction from project leader. Replace light bulbs make routine repairs to building and equipment; repair and adjust equipment according to direction provided; inspect and report damage to structure and equipment. Perform general grounds keeping tasks; cut grass, shovel snow, trim weeds and shrubs, plant flowers, repairs walks and steps, paint parking lot lines Arrange for burials on cemetery grounds; obtain information from undertaker regarding time and place, arrange for outside contractor to open and close graves; perform manual digging to ensure proper leveling off of grave site; update cemetery records. Log work completed; complete routine maintenance and order request forms

Education:

Completion of high school degree or the equivalent and additional specialized on-the-job training or experience in general maintenance or a specialized area of maintenance.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Previous maintenance experience in a Long Term Care setting preferred. Any combination of education and experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and

Knowledge:

Advanced knowledge of general maintenance practices and procedures. Thorough knowledge of shop mathematics. Thorough knowledge of safety standards, policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of department policy and procedure.

Skills:

Use of hand tools, e.g. saw, hammer, chisels and planes. Use of power tools, e.g. power saws, jointers, wood lathes, planners and boring, sanding and mortising machines. Use of power tools, e.g. drills, screw guns, chain saws, weed eater, grinders, jack hammer, air compressor. Operation of light equipment, e.g. ride mower, Operation of heavy equipment where properly licensed and trained, e.g. dump truck, back hoe, snow plow and front loader attachment.

Abilities:

Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and a good sense of balance. Ability to solve arithmetic problems quickly and accurately. Ability to recognize hazardous situations, take remedial action or call for help. Ability to read and interpret work orders, blue prints, sketches and manuals. Ability to take accurate measurements using square, measuring tape and ruler. Ability to cooperate as member of work unit. Ability to demonstrate polite and courteous manner toward residents. Ability to safely operate tools, ladder, scaffolding. Ability to demonstrate physical fitness, including light (0 -14), moderate (15-50) and heavy (over 50 lbs) lifting or moving of equipment and supplies, standing or walking for extended periods of time, working in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time, pushing or pulling, climbing ladder, climbing stairs, bending, squatting, crawling and reaching.
