Job Description

THE POSITION
As a Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 1 with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset, you take on an important leadership role. This position allows you to coordinate maintenance activities that support safety, structure, and daily operations. Your efforts help ensure that repairs, construction, and upkeep are completed efficiently. Step into a position where your work helps the entire facility succeed!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position oversees maintenance operations by directing staff, coordinating projects, and ensuring safe and efficient facility upkeep. The role supports management, supervises work activities, and ensures adherence to standards and procedures. As a Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 1, you will perform the following duties:
Daily Operations:
Plan, assign, direct, and coordinate maintenance activities based on facility needs and priorities
Staff Leadership:
Supervise maintenance and trades staff, provide training, and conduct performance oversight
Project Coordination:
Review blueprints, prepare sketches, and guide maintenance, construction, and repair projects
Resource Management:
Prepare and submit an annual department budget, control overtime, and review requisitions for tools, supplies, and equipment
Safety Compliance:
Inspect work areas, enforce safety standards, and document and address any deficiencies
Security Oversight:
Search work areas for contraband, maintain tool control, and respond to emergencies as needed Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week Work hours are 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,020.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Two years of experience as a Building Maintenance Foreman, Utility Plant Supervisor, or Corrections Tradesman Instructor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) with a specialty in one of the trades of Carpentry, Electrical, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, Machinist, Welding, Painting, Automotive, Electronics, or Masonry; or Six years of experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings; or the operation, maintenance and repair of utility services equipment, including two years in a managerial or supervisory capacity; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Other Requirements:
