THE POSITION
Are you ready to apply your maintenance experience in a role that supports teamwork and steady facility operations? As a Corrections Maintenance Foreman for the Department of Corrections, you blend leadership, practical trade work, and daily problem solving at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset. You help guide inmates through important maintenance tasks that keep the institution functioning effectively. This is an opportunity to share your knowledge and help maintain a safe environment.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Corrections maintenance foremen support facility operations by guiding inmates through daily maintenance, repair, and construction tasks. The role combines oversight, hands-on work, and coordination across a variety of trades. As a Corrections Maintenance Foreman, you will perform the following duties:
Crew Oversight:
Supervise inmate work crews and review completed maintenance, construction, and groundskeeping tasks
Daily Planning:
Plan work schedules, assign tasks, and instruct inmates in the safe use of machinery and vehicles
Trade Assistance:
Perform or assist with work in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, or welding
Tool Control:
Issue, inventory, and account for tools and materials while conducting searches to ensure proper control
Material Planning:
Identify materials needed for maintenance work and prepare purchase requests when necessary
Work Documentation:
Record inmate attendance and confirm work assignments are completed as required Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40-hour work week Work hours are 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday - Friday. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Four years of experience performing building maintenance, construction, or general trades work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required . You must be able to perform essential job functions.
