Under general direction, the Parts Technician performs essential clerical duties of the Fleet Maintenance Department to ensure efficient and effective services to the City's vehicle and equipment fleet.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Fleet Superintendent/Lead Mechanic.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Principal duty is to oversee the daily clerical duties of the Fleet Maintenance Department. Plans, organizes and coordinates Fleet Maintenance preventative maintenance program ensuring efficient and effective service to all City Departments. Participates in the development and administration of the Fleet Maintenance Department Budget, Capital Improvement Plan and Capital Outlay Plan. Serves as Fleet Maintenance liaison with Finance, Public Works and other Departments. Develops and maintains office forms and procedures, and assists with administrative tasks involving personnel, budgeting and facilities. Foster and maintain functional harmony between Fleet Maintenance and other City Departments. Responsible for input of work orders into computer program for department invoicing and distribution. Work orders and computer-generated invoices will be completed on a daily basis. Responsible for ordering parts and maintaining internal inventory of parts as required to include reconciliation of check requests and invoices with Finance as required. Prepares and schedules preventative maintenance, dealer/manufacturer recalls and warranty work with City Departments. Prepares monthly preventive maintenance schedule and monthly vehicle inspection (MVI) schedule for distribution to City Departments. Prepares monthly reports for Finance and other City Departments as requested. Request vehicles / trailer titles and license plates as required. Perform end of fiscal year stock inventory and submit to the Finance Department. Performs clerical duties including operating office machinery, answering phone/mail, responding to email, preparing reports, memoranda and other documents with emphasis to content, accuracy and completeness. Performs other essential duties as determined by the Fleet Superintendent to achieve successful operations and mission accomplishment of the department and City as a whole. Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function. It is an essential function of this position that you report to work on time and work your scheduled hours.PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Operation of city vehicles to include pick up and delivery of vehicles, equipment and parts. Other duties as assigned.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; AND Specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting and bookkeeping; AND Two (2) years of increasingly responsible related experience preferred; AND Must possess a current Texas Driver's License; Any equivalent combination of related education and experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; Knowledge of accounting principles and practices; Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment; Ability to effectively meet and respond with/to the public and City Departments; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to handle stressful situations.SELECTION GUIDELINES
