This leadership role is responsible for supervising shop personnel, coordinating repair workflow, ensuring high-quality workmanship, maintaining a safe work environment, and providing technical leadership to technicians. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with extensive experience in commercial truck repair, strong diagnostic skills, and a commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction. Duties
- Supervise the daily operations of the repair shop while promoting a safe, productive, and professional work environment.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and support technicians and shop helpers while ensuring compliance with company policies and safety procedures.
- Coordinate shop workflow by assigning work orders based on technician skill level, monitoring repair progress, and prioritizing repairs to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Provide technical leadership by assisting technicians with complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, and mechanical or electrical repairs.
- Implement and enforce quality control standards by inspecting completed repairs, resolving repeat repairs (comebacks), and ensuring repairs meet company and customer expectations.
- Identify training opportunities and promote continuous improvement in technician development.
- Coordinate with the Parts and Purchasing departments to ensure timely availability of required parts.
- Communicate with customers and Service Advisors regarding repair recommendations, diagnostic findings, and technical concerns when needed.
- Ensure repair orders are accurately documented with diagnostic information, labor operations, and repair notes to support billing and warranty claims.
- Monitor technician productivity and assist management in tracking shop performance and operational metrics. Qualifications
- Extensive experience in the repair and diagnosis of commercial trucks and trailers.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience using OEM diagnostic software and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read electrical and air system schematics.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, brake systems, suspension, steering, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Customer-focused attitude with the ability to communicate professionally.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications are a plus.
- OEM certifications (Cummins INSITE, Paccar DAVIE, Volvo PTT, Detroit DiagnosticLink (DDDL), Allison DOC, Eaton ServiceRanger, or equivalent) are a plus.
- Previous experience leading or supervising a commercial truck repair shop is preferred.
