Job Description

Position Summary The Distribution / Meter Reader Operator I performs entry-level operational, customer service, meter reading, maintenance, and field support duties associated with the City of Hawthorne potable water system. The position supports daily distribution system operations, meter services, customer service requests, hydrant maintenance, valve exercising, and emergency response activities under the direction of the Distribution Operations Lead and Operations Supervisor. Key Responsibilities Meter Operations Read customer water meters accurately. Perform meter investigations and consumption verification. Assist with meter testing and meter replacement activities. Assist with AMI/AMR installation, programming, and troubleshooting. Complete service orders using mobile devices and work management software. Distribution Operations Assist with leak repairs and service line repairs. Assist with installation of new water services. Assist with water main repairs and maintenance. Assist with hydrant inspections and maintenance. Assist with valve exercising programs. Assist with disinfection and testing of repaired mains. Support traffic control and jobsite safety setup. Customer Service Perform customer turn-ons, turn-offs, lock-offs, and reconnects. Respond to customer service requests. Investigate basic field complaints and service issues. Safety & Compliance Participate in safety meetings and training. Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Valid California Driver License. D1 Distribution Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months. Basic computer skills. Ability to work outdoors and perform physically demanding work. Preferred Qualifications T1 Treatment Certification. AMI/AMR experience. Utility field experience.
Pay:
$24.00 - $34.00 per hour
