The Meter Reader/Distribution Systems Operator helps to deliver safe, reliable drinking water to the city of Sanford/Springvale. This is a hands-on, meaningful job that protects public health, supports fire protection and keeps the water system running 24/7. This is a physically active position that works outside in all seasons. The role includes participation in an on-call rotation and seasonal hydrant flushing (typically 1 to 2 weeks of night work in the spring and fall).

Responsibilities and duties include:

Read meters utilizing our automated meter reading system Perform service work throughout the water system, including marking for Dig Safe locations Assists with water system flushing & maintenance programs Assists with maintaining and repairing water mains, hydrants & services Responds to service calls & emergencies as part of an on-call rotation

Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal and communications skills Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail Team player Ability to work independently Customer service skills Minimum of a valid State of Maine Class C drivers license, (CDL B preferred) and clean driving record Ability to obtain a Class B CDL (District support available) Ability to obtain a Maine Class II Water Distribution License Minimum of a High School Diploma No criminal history Experience working for a Public Water Supply, customer service or utilities preferred but not required
