Job Description
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of work activities to Operate, Maintain and Repair the City's Water Purification/Distribution and Wastewater Systems.Representative Duties/Essential Functions:
The following duties are notintended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.- Will be responsible for operating water plant, sewer lift stations, and water and sewer distribution systems.
- Locates, repairs, and replaces water and sewer lines and performs maintenance and inspection duties.
- Works on excavation and trench sites within right-of-way that may include other utilities such as electric, gas, communication, and fiber.
- Reads water meters and performs water service disconnects and reconnects within the public domain.
- Operates a variety of small to heavy motorized vehicles and equipment as part of various maintenance and repair projects and activities. Will be required to train and proficiently operate: Loader, Backhoe, Heavy Dump Truck with Plow, Belly Plow and Wing, Plow/Sand Truck, Skid Loader with various attachments, Pickup Truck with plow, and various walk behind and/or hand tools.
- Responds to questions and concerns from the general public, may be required to enter into private homes and business, and advise on sewer and water.
- Supports other Public Works departments as assigned, including streets, parks, cemetery, campground, and Redhead Mountain Bike Park.
- Responds to emergency call outs for various departments of Public Works and Utilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required. Minimum Qualifications (include valid Driver's License if required):
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of experience in water, sewer and storm drain system operations.
- Possession of a valid State of Minnesota Class B commercial driver's license or the ability to obtain said license within 1 year of the date of initial hire.
- Must be able to obtain both a Class D Sewer License and Class B Water License within a 8-year window from date of initial hire and weekend call outs within an approximate 30-minute response time.
Other Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of city policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools, motorized equipment and various medium to heavy vehicles
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, perform data entry, and use of computers and mobile devices.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- May be required to lift and/or carry supplies, materials, equipment and/or items weighing up to 100 pounds and work in all types of weather.
