Overview Join our dynamic team as a Water Meter Reader and play a vital role in ensuring accurate measurement of water consumption for our community. This energetic position involves outdoor work, precise data collection, and customer interaction. You will be responsible for reading water meters across various locations, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety protocols. Duties Accurately read water meters using handheld meter reading devices or manual methods across assigned routes. Inspect meters for signs of damage, leaks, or tampering, and report issues promptly. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on water meters and related equipment utilizing hand tools and power tools. Locate underground utility lines using utility locating equipment to ensure safe access during meter readings. Follow safety protocols including DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and NEC (National Electrical Code) standards during all field activities. Document readings and maintenance activities precisely, updating digital or manual logs as required. Engage with customers professionally to explain meter readings or address inquiries while maintaining excellent customer service standards. Qualifications Prior experience working outdoors in utility or field service environments is highly preferred. Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in equipment repair and maintenance. Familiarity with utility locating techniques, low voltage electrical systems, and power tools usage. Ability to perform heavy lifting, climbing, manual handling, and walking extensive distances daily. Basic math skills for recording and verifying meter readings accurately. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; experience driving in various conditions is advantageous. Knowledge of safety protocols including DOT regulations and proper use of hand tools and safety gear. Experience working with handheld meter readers or similar technical devices is a plus.
