NIKA is hiring for an HRAC Mechanic to support the Mission Support Client in Kodiak, AK. This role will sit fully onsite and may offer relocation for the right candidate. This position will operate under a CBA with the Teamsters 959 Union. Installs, services, and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings and other commercial establishments. Utilizes knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout. Mount's compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications. Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment. Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools. Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools. Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment. Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant. Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit. Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source. Installs air filters in completed installation. Injects small amounts of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure. Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation. Tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution. Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands. Replaces thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units. May install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity, in warehouses and small factory buildings. Trouble shoot and repair DDC controlled HVAC assets in both commercial and residential buildings. Troubleshoot and repair residential and light commercial boilers. Submit work requests to generate work orders deficiencies found. Must participate as a member of the Mechanical Shop Call Out Rotation. Participates as part of an On-Call Response Team Member as directed Successful applicant must possess their own trade relevant hand-tools 5 years' experience in one total or combination of either refrigeration, low pressure boilers, steam fitter or pipefitter Hold or be able to obtain EPA Universal refrigerant card within 6 months Must meet the requirements of an annual physical that will include pulmonary function testing and will require the occasional use of a respirator Must be able to communicate clearly (oral and written) in the English language Must complete Company provided Confined Space Entry training and perform work in a variety of confined spaces Knowledge of acceptable practices of occupational safety and health regulations Valid Alaska Driver's License Must remain in good standing with the local Teamsters 959 Union Must have a high school diploma or equivalency NIKA provides equal employment opportunity to all individuals regardless of their race, color, creed, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by state, federal, or local law.
