Job Description

Busy knife sharpening shop in Walpole, MA is seeking a part-time Machine Mechanic to repair and conduct preventative maintenance on our many machines used to grind and sharpen knives. Primarily hollow grinders and honing machines. Responsibilities would include general preventative maintenance of our machines which includes changing stones in a precision based way, checking and changing belts, lubrication and changing the water weekly for all the machines. Ability to change bearings, flanges, motors and other mechanical assemblies as needed. Also any general shop maintenance that needs to be performed during off hours Must be able to work alone and occasionally with a helper if needed and manage time efficiently. Ability to troubleshoot, read schematics, think outside the box and find a solution no matter the issue is definitely necessary when dealing with tricky, rusted and frozen machine parts. Patience and perseverance are critical attributes. Great role for an early retiree looking to do some mechanical hands on work in their free time. Most repairs and maintenance have to occur either on the weekend or on days where the shop is less busy, specifically Fridays or even nights when things slow down a bit. We are very flexible in that sense. Having reliable transportation and living somewhat close to the shop in Walpole will be necessary, although exceptions can be made for the ideal candidate We will provide training specific to our machines but previous hands on mechanical work is absolutely necessary for this role There is also the option to additionally pick up hours in the shop sharpening knives if that is of interest
Pay:
$19.00 - $21.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 - 15.0 per week
