Job Description

  • Job Title: Tooling Repair Technician Injection Molding
  • Job Description
  • This role focuses on maintaining and repairing injection molds used in an automotive injection molding department.

You will perform preventative maintenance and production tool repair on molds used across a fleet of 34 machines, supporting the production of interior components for the automotive industry. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude in hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical troubleshooting, with a focus on keeping molds and related systems running safely, reliably, and efficiently.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Perform preventative maintenance on injection molds to ensure reliable operation and minimize unplanned downtime.

+ Carry out production tool repair on molds ranging from 900 lbs to 2,500 tons used in automotive injection molding.

+ Inspect molds regularly for wear, damage, and performance issues, and complete necessary repairs or adjustments.

+ Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems associated with molds, including hydraulic ejection, hydraulic lines, and core signals in hydraulic cylinders.

+ Troubleshoot and repair issues on injection molding machines, including brands such as Toshiba and KM, to support consistent production quality.

+ Maintain and repair hot runner systems, including troubleshooting and repairing valve gates within molds.

+ Perform standard electrical troubleshooting and repair up to 120V and 240V on mold-related equipment.

+ Use volt meters and other diagnostic tools to test connections to molds, verify continuity, and check OHM readings.

+ Conduct mechanical and pneumatic troubleshooting on mold tooling and related equipment to identify root causes of failures.

+ Carry out grinding and other precision work as needed to restore tooling surfaces and ensure proper mold function.

+ Support tool and die maintenance activities, including disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of molds.

+ Document maintenance and repair activities accurately and communicate equipment status to production and maintenance teams.

+ Collaborate with production personnel to respond quickly to tooling issues and support continuous improvement of mold performance.

+ Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.

  • Essential Skills
  • + Minimum 3+ years of production tool repair experience in injection molding environments.

+ Hands-on experience with hydraulic maintenance and repair, specifically hydraulic ejection systems, hydraulic lines, and core signals in hydraulic cylinders.

+ Practical experience working with injection molding machinery, including brands such as Toshiba and KM (experience with all three is not required).

+ At least 2+ years of experience working with hot runner systems.

+ Ability to troubleshoot and repair valve gates within molds.

+ Minimum 1+ year of standard electrical troubleshooting and repair experience up to 120V and 240V.

+ Ability to test OHMs and operate volt meters to test electrical connections to molds.

+ Strong mechanical aptitude in mold repair, tooling, and die maintenance.

+ Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical issues on injection mold tooling.

+ Experience with diagnostic testing and troubleshooting on injection molding equipment and tooling.

  • + Experience with injection mold repair and preventative maintenance in an automotive manufacturing setting.

+ in mold maintenance, including cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of complex tooling.

+ Familiarity with grinding operations and precision finishing of tooling components.

+ Exposure to tool and die work, including die maintenance and repair.

+ Comfort working with industrial equipment and following structured maintenance procedures.

+ Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to work independently to resolve tooling issues.

  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $30.

00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
