As a Start-Up Mechanic at SVM, you will have the opportunity to start up, test, adjust, and troubleshoot HVAC equipment and systems across commercial construction projects. The Start-Up Mechanic will play a crucial role in verifying equipment is installed correctly, operating as intended, and ready for turnover. What you will do Perform equipment start-up and support factory start-up activities for HVAC equipment and systems, including but not limited to facility water loops, technical water loops, split systems, packaged units, boilers, VRF systems, chillers, and pumps. Review blueprints and drawings for assigned project. Unload materials off various vehicles at the jobsite. Lift and transport materials as needed around the jobsite. Utilize a variety of tools for product startup and/or repairs. Assist with training other Start-Up mechanics on new equipment and Start-Up processes as required. Inspect various equipment on assigned jobsite as outlined in scope of project. Review punch list and make appropriate repairs. Complete testing of SOO's. Complete start up forms, ensuring functionality of all equipment is reviewed, documented and submitted to Foreman to review. Complete commission documents, ensuring all appropriate information is submitted to Foreman. Maintain inventory of workplace materials and tools, notifying Foreman as necessary. Maintain a tidy work area, ensuring jobsite materials are organized daily. Review various equipment installation and operations manuals as needed. Attend required Start-Up department meetings and trainings. Maintain within good standing with union. Complete toolbox talks, pre-task plans and daily safety forms. Support the Start-Up department with other tasks and projects as business requires. Education, Skills & Experience SVM's Start-Up team includes opportunities across varying levels of experience. Specific experience, technical knowledge, certifications, and qualifications required or suggested may vary based on the level and classification of the position. 1+ years of experience in a production, mechanical, construction, skilled trade, or other hands-on work environment required. HVAC or mechanical construction experience preferred. Knowledge of equipment, materials, and tools used in HVAC industry is highly preferred. Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, and other equipment are a plus. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, equipment documentation, installation and operation manuals (IOMs), and manufacturer requirements. Knowledge of refrigerant, electrical/electronic, and hydronic systems preferred. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage assigned work and meet project deadlines. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and electronically, with employees, customers, contractors, and other project stakeholders. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and utilize electronic systems and applications required for the role. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred; ability to obtain required certification within the designated timeframe following hire required. Current EPA 608 Universal preferred. Wages are determined in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement and affiliated local union wage scale. Compensation is based on classification, experience, and union-defined step placement.
