Description
JOB OVERVIEW
Mechanic duties include maintaining a variety of equipment within the facility. Inspect, diagnose, fix, and rebuild as necessary. Implement preventative maintenance practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / SKILL / RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities of the mechanic include, but not limited to:
Troubleshoot/ diagnose equipment failure and carryout repairs.
Work around and in close proximity of operating equipment to diagnose suspected probable failures.
Conduct regular preventive maintenance to reduce down time.
Install and dismantle machinery and equipment according to plans which involves working at heights, climbing ladders, and using mobile equipment.
Determining parts required for repairs and replacement.
Operate mobile equipment used in the repair, installation or fabrication of equipment including but not limited to lathes, welders, milling machine, drills, grinders, hammers, wrenches, blow torches and other variety of power tools.
Inspect, remove, replace drive components (bearings, couplings, sheaves, reducers, gearboxes).
Inspect, remove, replace pumps, compressors, valves, etc.
Inspect, remove, repair, replace conveyor systems, screws, air slides, belts, elevators, pneumatic systems, chains, etc.
Maintain/repair dust collector systems.
Rebuild equipment (compressors, gearing carriers, and housings, coal mill assemblies, reducers, etc.)
WORK CONDITIONS
Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and in all types of weather conditions
Interaction with other crew employees, as well as supervisors and client personnel
Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels
Proper personal protective equipment is required at all times, such as, Metatarsal shoes/boots, ear plugs/ear muffs, safety glasses and hard hats
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift and carry 60 pounds
Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits employee to communicate effectively
Lift tools, machinery parts
Endure intermittent bending, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching
Ability to climb ladder
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the marine, or steel fabrication industry
High school diploma or GED required
Ability to work well under minimal supervision
