ROLE OUTLINE
The Millwright supports the CPNA Maintenance & Engineering organization by safely installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving mechanical production equipment, utility systems, and plant infrastructure. The role executes preventive, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance while supporting reliability improvement, root cause problem solving, outage execution, and accurate SAP work management. The Millwright partners with Operations, Engineering, Reliability, Planning, and Maintenance personnel to maximize equipment availability, reduce downtime, and support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations while promoting Zero Harm, precision maintenance, good housekeeping, and continuous improvement.KEY FOCUS AREAS
Mechanical Maintenance, Installation, and Troubleshooting Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and modify production equipment, utility systems, rotating equipment, and supporting plant infrastructure across CPNA facilities. Diagnose and correct failures involving hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, drive trains, power transmission, material handling systems, and overhead crane equipment. Perform precision maintenance activities including equipment alignment, coupling installation, fastener torqueing, and equipment rebuilds to restore reliable operation. Read, interpret, and update mechanical drawings, blueprints, equipment manuals, technical specifications, and maintenance work instructions. Preventive, Predictive, and Reliability-Centered Maintenance Execute preventive, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures and reliability standards. Perform condition-monitoring tasks such as thermography, oil analysis, lubrication routes, vibration awareness, and equipment inspections. Support root cause analysis and failure investigations, identifying recurring equipment issues and recommending corrective actions. Contribute to reliability-centered maintenance strategies, PM optimization, and asset improvement initiatives that extend equipment life and reduce downtime. Work Management, Documentation, and Outage Support Utilize SAP Maintenance Management Systems (MMS) to document completed work, record failure information, create notifications, capture equipment history, and support planning and scheduling. Maintain accurate maintenance records and support development and improvement of maintenance procedures, PMs, and work instructions. Participate in outage planning, shutdown execution, equipment commissioning, and start-up activities to ensure safe and reliable return to service. Provide emergency and after-hours maintenance response as required, including on-call support based on business needs. Fabrication, Rigging, and Equipment Support Perform mechanical fabrication, rigging, and equipment installations using approved methods, permits, and safe work practices. Safely perform welding, cutting, and fitting activities when qualified and authorized. Operate and maintain machine shop equipment including lathes, drill presses, grinders, alignment tools, and diagnostic instruments. Safely operate forklifts, aerial/man lifts, and radio-controlled overhead cranes as required to complete assigned work. Training, Mentoring, and Continuous Improvement Support skills development, multi-craft capability, and knowledge transfer within the Maintenance organization. Mentor apprentices and developing maintenance associates through hands-on coaching and demonstration of best practices. Identify and elevate improvement opportunities that enhance safety, reliability, quality, and cost performance. Support maintenance and reliability activities at other CPNA facilities and adapt to evolving departmental priorities when required.FOUNDATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Required Qualifications and Experience High school diploma or GED required. Minimum 5 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience. Minimum 2 years blueprint/drawing reading experience and 2 years millwright experience. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, and power transmission equipment. Working knowledge of rigging, welding, crane equipment, and precision maintenance practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn and effectively use SAP or a comparable CMMS for maintenance documentation. Ability to work weekends, extended hours, outage support, on-call, or adjusted schedules when business needs require. Desired Qualifications Associate degree in Mechanical or a related field. Journey-level Millwright state certification and/or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program. 5+ years millwright experience and 10+ years mechanical maintenance experience. Welding certification and demonstrated fabrication capability. Experience with TPM, RCM, predictive maintenance, or precision maintenance programs. Experience with the SAP maintenance module and heavy manufacturing, steel, metals, or continuous-process environments.SKILLS AND ABILITIES
