Job Description
$25.80/hr - $51.20/hr ( Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as licenses/certifications, experience, skillset, and location ) $100/day per diem (if you live 70+ miles from Craig, CO) Position Summary Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, fabricate, and weld components on large surface mining shovels and draglines in accordance with company standards, manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, and industry best practices. This position supports safe and reliable equipment operation through mechanical repair, structural welding, line boring support, component replacement, inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective maintenance activities. The mechanic-welder is expected to work safely at heights, in confined spaces, and around heavy mining equipment while helping ensure shovel and dragline availability, reliability, and compliance with site safety and maintenance programs. Experience Level Skilled Primary Responsibilities and Duties Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain large surface mining shovels, draglines, and related support equipment. Perform mechanical repairs on hoist, crowd, swing, propel, braking, lubrication, hydraulic, pneumatic, and structural systems as applicable to shovel and dragline equipment. Perform welding, cutting, gouging, fabrication, and structural repair work on buckets, dippers, booms, frames, walkways, guarding, house structures, and related components. Remove, install, rebuild, and align major components including pins, bushings, bearings, sheaves, gearboxes, motors, brakes, wire ropes, cylinders, pumps, lines, and structural assemblies. Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, blueprints, weld procedures, job plans, and maintenance instructions to complete repairs correctly and safely. Support planned maintenance, preventative maintenance, backlog work, outage work, and unscheduled breakdown repairs to improve equipment reliability and availability. Conduct pre-job inspections, identify hazards, participate in JHA/LSA reviews, and follow all lockout/tagout, fall protection, confined space, hot work, rigging, and lifting requirements. Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, welding machines, cutting torches, air arc equipment, hydraulic tooling, lifting devices, and other maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Assist with rigging, heavy lifts, component staging, equipment setup, and coordination with operators, planners, supervisors, vendors, and other maintenance personnel. Document work performed, parts used, inspection findings, equipment condition, follow-up work, and repair recommendations in the site maintenance management system. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while ensuring tools, parts, welding leads, hoses, and access areas are controlled throughout the job. Perform other related duties as assigned to support safe, productive, and reliable mining operations. Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred. Previous experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing large surface mining equipment; shovel or dragline experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated welding, cutting, gouging, fabrication, and structural repair experience in a mining, heavy industrial, construction, or equipment maintenance environment. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, blueprints, schematics, weld symbols, job plans, and maintenance procedures. Working knowledge of mechanical systems including gearboxes, bearings, pins, bushings, sheaves, wire ropes, braking systems, lubrication systems, hydraulic systems, and structural components. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring tools, welding equipment, cutting torches, air arc equipment, hydraulic tooling, and rigging equipment. Knowledge of safe work practices including lockout/tagout, hot work, fall protection, confined space, rigging, lifting, and working around mobile and stationary mining equipment. Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, planners, operators, vendors, and other maintenance personnel regarding equipment condition, repair progress, parts needs, and follow-up work. Ability to document work performed, inspection findings, parts used, and repair recommendations accurately in the site maintenance management system. Must demonstrate safe work habits, reliability, teamwork, accountability, and the ability to work independently or as part of a maintenance crew. Requirements Able to meet all physical requirements.
