Job Description
Kellanova is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Mechanic to support our Food & Beverage Operations within the Engineering, Maintenance & Asset Management team. You will install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production environments. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair of mechanical and electrical components, and optimization of energy usage. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, uphold safety and quality standards, and contribute to continuous improvement in a culture that values inclusion, innovation, and growth. Responsibilities Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems supporting food production. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, and associated utilities. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues on refrigeration equipment and related systems. Interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to support maintenance and repairs. Work with PLC- or DDC-controlled systems to assist with basic control adjustments and fault tracing. Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, and repairs in the CMMS. Ensure compliance with all safety, food safety, process safety, and environmental regulations, including ammonia handling procedures. Participate in root cause analysis, reliability improvements, and energy efficiency initiatives for refrigeration systems. Respond to equipment breakdowns and support 24/7 production through rotating shifts, overtime, and on-call coverage as needed. Collaborate with operations, quality, engineering, and sanitation teams to minimize downtime and support production goals. Required Skills Industrial refrigeration maintenance Ammonia refrigeration systems Commercial/industrial HVACMechanical troubleshooting and repair Basic electrical troubleshooting (motors, starters, sensors) Reading P&IDs and wiring diagrams PLC/DDC controls familiarity Preventive and predictive maintenance Use of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) Pump, valve, and motor alignment and repair Lockout/Tagout and process safety procedures Basic welding, brazing, or piping skills Use of refrigeration gauges, meters, and diagnostic tools Food manufacturing or process plant experience Root cause analysis and reliability improvement
