Job Description

Kellanova is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Mechanic to support our Food & Beverage Operations within the Engineering, Maintenance & Asset Management team. You will install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production environments. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair of mechanical and electrical components, and optimization of energy usage. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, uphold safety and quality standards, and contribute to continuous improvement in a culture that values inclusion, innovation, and growth. Responsibilities Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial refrigeration systems supporting food and beverage production and storage. Perform routine and preventive maintenance on compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, pumps, controls, and associated piping. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues using technical documentation, schematics, P&IDs, and diagnostic tools. Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and food safety regulations, including proper handling of refrigerants and lockout/tagout procedures. Monitor system performance, adjust settings, and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, energy efficiency, and system capacity. Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to plan and coordinate maintenance activities and support equipment upgrades. Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection logs, and repair documentation in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives focused on reducing downtime and improving system performance. Provide technical support and basic training to operators and junior technicians on refrigeration equipment operation and troubleshooting. Respond to equipment emergencies, participate in on-call rotations, and work overtime or rotating shifts as required for 24/7 operations. Required Skills Industrial refrigeration system maintenance and repair Ammonia and industrial refrigerant handling Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting Reading and interpreting schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings Preventive and predictive maintenance practices Use of diagnostic tools and instrumentation (multimeters, gauges, leak detectors) PLC-based and automated control systems familiarity Lockout/tagout and industrial safety procedures Basic welding, brazing, and piping skills CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) usage Root cause analysis and reliability improvement Understanding of food plant sanitation and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
