POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Refrigeration Operator is responsible for efficient operation of the ammonia refrigeration system and will monitor and make adjustments to maintain proper cold room and freezing tunnel temperatures with little or no supervision. This position provides customer service to the rest of the facility (warehouse and production) and must maintain equipment for peak efficiency, and power savings while meeting the requirements of OSHA's PSM, and the EPA's RMP programs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Observe system parameters to ensure proper functioning of the equipment, and make adjustments as needed. Adjust compressors to ensure proper temperature of cold storage rooms and freezing tunnels. Defrost freezing tunnels and cold room evaporators as needed. Use welding equipment and perform modifications and fabrications on machine. Oil and lubricate machinery. Perform maintenance and repair under the supervision of the Refrigeration Supervisor and complete work order documentation. Evacuate or pump down all refrigeration lines and equipment as needed. May be required to supervise. Obey all safety, health, sanitation, and plant rules and procedures. Perform other duties as directed.

POSITION PRE-REQUISITES

Must have 1 year of experience as a Refrigeration Operator, operating industrial ammonia systems. Must have current CIRO certification from RETA or be able to obtain within one year. Ability to follow comprehensive instructions with little or no supervision. Ability to weld and cut various materials. Ability to fabricate with various materials from blueprints and sketches. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and P&IDs. Ability to use all hand and power tools. Ability to drive a lift truck. Must provide and maintain own tools. Ability to work from high platforms and lift heavy objects. Available to work any shift, weekends, and daily overtime as needed. Able to work with Logix Refrigeration Control System. Able to complete work order documentation (MPulse). Ability to comply with Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plan regulations.
