Responsibilities Summary:

The Refrigeration Mechanic troubleshoots, repairs and maintains refrigeration units and mechanical equipment.

Essential Functions:

Observes and tests system operation using gauges and instruments. Tests lines, components, connections for leaks, and proper refrigerant pump down if applicable. Adjusts or replaces worn or defective mechanisms and parts and reassembles repaired systems. Perform preventative maintenance on Facilities equipment (i.e. boilers, air compressors, hydraulics, wastewater treatment, freezers). Installs wiring to connect components to an electric power source. Keeps record of repairs and replacements made and causes of malfunctions utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Qualifications Required Qualifications:

Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 2 years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current R.E.T.A. or Refrigeration certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.

Preferred Education & Experiences:

2 years' experience using general refrigeration competencies including but not limited to ammonia systems repair. Similar industry experience CARO or CIRO (RETA) Certification Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Ability to request and communicate parts and tools needed to effectively complete tasks. Ability to interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams to troubleshoot system issues. Ability to maintain and troubleshoot electrical/mechanical aspects of Ammonia refrigeration equipment, including evaporators, compressors, condensers, and piping systems. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with other departments, managers, and technicians. Ability to troubleshoot complex systems.

Work environment:

The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
