A Precision or Fine Instrument Repairer makes, calibrates, repairs, maintains, adjusts and installs mechanical watches and clocks, and nautical, meteorological, optical and other precision instruments and equipment, and sets them for correct performance.
Job Overview We're seeking experienced, self-motivated Residential Cable & Fiber Technicians to handle installs, service calls, upgrades, and repairs involving both coaxial and fiber optic systems. Work independently, manage your schedule, and earn based on completed jobs in a market with increasing fiber deployments. Partnering with major provider to deliver high-speed internet, cable TV, VoIP, and emerging fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services to residential customers. Key Responsibilities Perform residential installations, reconnects, upgrades, service changes, and disconnects for cable TV, high-speed internet, and phone services (coax and fiber-based). Install and configure customer premises equipment (CPE), including modems, routers, gateways, set-top boxes, Wi-Fi extenders, Optical Network Terminals (ONTs), and related devices. Run, terminate, splice (basic fusion/mechanical), test, and troubleshoot coaxial cable (RG6/RG11) drops and inside wiring, as well as fiber optic drops from tap/pedestal to home.
Handle fiber-specific tasks:
Install fiber lines to the premises, connect/activate ONTs, perform basic fiber testing (e.g., using power meters, light sources, OTDR basics), and ensure clean, low-loss connections. Troubleshoot and repair signal quality issues, connectivity problems, intermittent service, and equipment failures using tools like signal level meters, fiber power meters, visual fault locators, cable testers, and diagnostic apps. Climb ladders (up to 28 ft), work on poles (if required), in attics/crawl spaces, on roofs, and in various weather conditions to complete installs and repairs safely.
Provide outstanding customer service:
Explain services/equipment, optimize home Wi-Fi/networks, demonstrate fiber advantages (higher speeds/reliability), and resolve concerns professionally. Complete accurate work orders, upload photos/documentation (including fiber test results). Requirements Must be an independent contractor (1099) - Provide your own reliable vehicle (truck, van, or SUV capable of carrying a 28 ft extension ladder - no sedans), ladder, tools, and equipment (including coax and fiber-specific tools like compression/cleavers, power meter, VFL, etc.). Valid driver's license with clean driving record . Ability to pass background check and drug screening. Proven experience in residential cable/broadband installations (coax preferred; fiber experience a major plus; 1+ years ideal) Solid knowledge of coaxial systems, signal levels, basic networking, and fiber optics fundamentals (e.g., single-mode fiber, connectors like SC/APC, basic splicing/testing). Physically able to lift 50-75 lbs, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform manual labor daily in outdoor/indoor environments.
