Public Works Technician - Part-time Reports to: Public Works Manager FLSA status: Hourly, non-exempt Salary range: $23.00-$26.00 per hour Job posted dates: July 12th - July 30th, 2026 BACKGROUND The Town of Columbine Valley is nestled along the Platte River in the south-Denver metro area. Established in 1959, the Town is comprised of approximately 550 homes surrounding Columbine Country Club. The Town staff is small but very effective, dedicated to providing high-quality service and deliverables to a population of just over 1,300 people.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Part-Time Public Works Technician reports to the Public Works Manager and supports the maintenance and operation of the Town's streets, infrastructure, facilities, and related systems. This position works up to 25 hours a week. This position is responsible for performing a variety of routine and semi-skilled public works tasks, including maintenance, repairs, and snow removal, while operating equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

At least 60% of this job will be spent conducting hands-on, front-line maintenance of the Town's streets, and facilities.

• Snow removal operations from Town streets, parking lots and walks using various equipment
• Works with contracted maintenance and repair crews
• Conducts minor pothole repair, street patching, sealing and striping
• Inspects, installs, repairs and maintains traffic signs and pavement markings
• Maintains, clears and administers gutter pans and storm water drains as needed; monitor water infrastructure including ditches and laterals
• Maintain streets and right-of-ways including removal of debris, animals, glass, etc.
• Monitor and repair/coordinate repair of Town lighting systems including Xcel poles and some HOA entrance lighting.
• Trim, prune and remove trees, shrubs and other debris from street signs and other infrastructure.
• Maintains Town owned property; performs minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and paint repairs as necessary.
• Set-up and breakdown for special events and meetings
• Perform work such as changing light bulbs, move boxes, repair fixtures and furniture.
• Keeps and maintains the Town garage/shop. Pull weeds, remove debris and apply mulch to gardens and other landscaped areas. Sweep and clean sidewalks; pick up litter.
• Make minor repairs to irrigation systems.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identifies and assists with prioritizing project needs, establishes project timelines and conducts public works infrastructure maintenance;
• Develops and implements/conducts preventative maintenances programs involving buildings and other structures, vehicle fleet, and streets including storm water systems.
• Creates/maintains Standard Operating Procedure documents for the functions under their jurisdiction.
• Assist Police and Admin departments with public safety and code enforcement.
• Works with contracted professional engineers in designing and implementing projects as assigned or requested by the Board of Trustees or Town Administrator
• Coordinates engineering and public works activities with other agencies, contractors and Town departments; confers with staff as needed in preparing and reviewing plan specifications.
• Attends public meetings, hearings and HOA meetings on behalf of public works; creates and performs presentations for public meetings as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years of relevant professional work experience, public sector experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of construction methods, material and equipment as applied in municipal public works; experience with project management, design software, and geographic information systems.
• Intermediate to advanced familiarity with MS Excel and Microsoft Office Suite, and other special computer applications as required; and the ability to learn new technology/software quickly a must.
• Excellent communication skills, including written, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated analytical skills, especially in the areas of long-range planning, process improvement and problem solving.
• Ability to prioritize work, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, set goals and enforce deadlines, while maintaining flexibility to reassess and re-prioritize.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in sensitive matters.
• Able to influence, build trust, and manage conflict.
• Knowledge of safe work practices
• Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Town staff and with a diverse client base.
• Must be available for before/after hour calls.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

• Valid Colorado driver's license at time of hire
• Must be able to successfully pass a driving background check.

WORK CONDITIONS

• Requires lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, reaching, moving and placing objects (up to 50lbs).
• Manual dexterity is required to complete work tasks through safe and proper operation of hand tools, power tools and motor vehicles.
• Adverse conditions such as extreme weather, heavy traffic and equipment noise.
• Occasional abnormal hours for snow removal and emergencies, to include nights, weekends and holidays.
• Sitting and driving for extended periods.
• Pick up snow with a plow, snow blower and hand shovel.
• Use propane torch to install pavement markings.
• Use epoxy adhesive to install pavement markers.
• Regularly perform routine assignments alone.

COMPENSATION

This is a part-time position. The salary range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/per hour. Benefits
