Job Description

Champaign area! We are seeking a Service Technician II to join our expanding U.S. field service team. As a Tech II, you will operate as an intermediate-level field technician, handling a wide range of HVAC/R service and refrigerant recovery tasks with growing independence. You'll be trusted to take on more complex service assignments—such as assisting with system retrofits or large-scale refrigerant projects—while often mentoring junior Tech I team members. This role is ideal for a technician with 1-3 years of field experience who is ready to step into a more advanced, fully capable service role.
Key Responsibilities Independent Field Work:
Perform routine service jobs, preventative maintenance, and refrigerant recovery operations with minimal supervision. Often serve as on-site lead when paired with a Tech I.
Advanced Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve issues in chiller and refrigeration systems, including refrigerant leaks, component failures, and control system faults.
Special Projects Support:
Assist senior technicians with complex projects such as refrigerant retrofits or chiller decontamination, taking on substantial portions of the work.
On-Site Coordination:
Manage tools, materials, and refrigerant inventory for job readiness. Make field adjustments as needed and provide updates to the Service Manager or Lead.
Mentorship:
Train and guide Tech I team members on proper service procedures, troubleshooting, and safety practices.
Customer Interaction:
Communicate effectively with customers about service performed, provide clear updates, and ensure satisfaction before project completion.
Required Qualifications Experience:
1-3 years of HVAC/R field service experience, demonstrating independence and technical proficiency.
Certifications:
EPA 608 Universal Certification (required). OSHA-10 safety training (minimum; OSHA-30 preferred). Valid driver's license and ability to meet DOT requirements. Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of chillers, refrigerant recovery units, vacuum pumps, and control systems. Ability to read wiring diagrams, manuals, and service bulletins. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and data interpretation. Comfortable using tablets/computers for service reporting and technical documentation.
Soft Skills:
Strong organizational skills, clear communication, problem-solving mindset, team orientation, and commitment to safety. Preferred Qualifications Technical training or degree in HVAC/R or related field. Manufacturer-specific service training (e.g., Carrier, Daikin, Trane). State HVAC technician license (where applicable). Advanced safety certifications (e.g., OSHA-30, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR). Experience with specialty refrigerants or large tonnage systems. CDL Class B with HAZMAT endorsement (a plus). Travel Requirements Up to 80% regional travel within assigned territory. ~20% national travel for larger projects. Frequent same-day travel and regular overnight stays required. Flexible scheduling, with overtime as needed to meet customer demands.
