Job Description
Detailer - Commercial DoorsPosition OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Detailer specializing in commercial doors to produce accurate shop drawings, door schedules, and hardware specifications for Division 8 projects. The role supports project managers and estimators by translating architectural plans and specifications into detailed fabrication and installation documentation, ensuring code compliance and coordination with architects, contractors, and suppliers.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduce detailed shop drawings and door schedules for commercial door systems in compliance with project specifications and Division 8 requirements.
Translate architectural plans, specifications, and addenda into accurate door and hardware details, elevations, and sections.
Prepare hardware schedules and coordinate hardware sets, keying, and finish requirements using hardware specification software.
Bid projects ranging from 15 openings all the way up to 3,000+ openings.
Collaborate with project managers, architects, contractors, and vendors to resolve design and coordination issues.
Perform quantity takeoffs and assist estimators with material lists and cost inputs for bidding.
Review submittals and RFIs related to doors and hardware and provide timely, technically accurate responses.
Maintain organized project documentation, revision tracking, and drawing templates; update as projects progress.
Participate in site visits as needed to verify existing conditions and support installation coordination.
Qualifications3+ years of detailing experience with commercial doors and hardware, preferably on Division 8 projects.
Proficient in door detailing software such as E/pws or Comsense, Protech, etc.
Working knowledge of commercial door types, frames, hardware components, and finishes.
Familiarity with building codes and standards related to doors and hardware (ADA, NFPA, IBC) and fire-rated door assemblies.
Experience preparing door schedules, hardware sets, shop drawings, and material takeoffs.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to produce accurate, timely documentation.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines; organized with strong time-management skills.
Degree or certificate in architectural technology, drafting, engineering, or related field is a plus; or equivalent on-the-job experience.
