Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Drop Bury Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing underground telecommunications cables and fiber optic networks. Your expertise will ensure the reliable delivery of high-speed internet, voice, and data services to residential and commercial customers. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors, operate heavy equipment, and contribute to the expansion of vital communication infrastructure. The ideal candidate is energetic, safety-conscious, and possesses strong technical troubleshooting skills. Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, and excavators to perform underground cable installations and repairs. Install telecommunications network cables, including fiber optic systems, following technical drawings and schematics. Bury cables accurately while adhering to safety standards outlined by the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot network issues and ensure optimal system performance. Perform telecommunications outside plant operations, including cable splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks. Interpret technical schematics, engineering drawings, and cabling diagrams to complete installations efficiently. Conduct outdoor work in various weather conditions while maintaining safety protocols and proper use of hand tools and power tools. Qualifications Proven experience in field service roles involving telecommunications or outdoor construction projects. Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation, including bucket trucks and power tools. Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, fiber optic cables, and telecommunications testing equipment. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and network infrastructure layouts. Familiarity with telecommunication systems such as LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, and telephony. Knowledge of low voltage electrical systems and electrical safety standards. Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues using technical troubleshooting support tools. Outdoor work experience with climbing skills for pole work or tower access preferred. Construction experience in telecommunications or related fields is highly desirable. Strong computer proficiency for interpreting schematics and managing network configurations.
