Position Summary The Jeweler's Assistant supports our jewelry repair, watch service, and sales operations by performing polishing, basic jewelry repairs, watch battery replacements, and other hands-on technical services. This position works directly with our jewelers and watch department and requires excellent attention to detail, careful handling of luxury merchandise, and the ability to perform services efficiently and professionally.

Primary Responsibilities:

Jewelry Repair & Polishing Polish and refinish jewelry using appropriate polishing equipment and techniques. Clean jewelry using ultrasonic and steam-cleaning equipment. Assist jewelers with basic jewelry repair tasks. Perform simple repairs appropriate to the employee's training and experience. Inspect jewelry before and after service for damage, loose stones, or other concerns. Prepare jewelry for repair and final customer delivery. Maintain a clean and organized polishing and repair area. Properly handle gold, platinum, silver, diamonds, gemstones, and other valuable materials. Assist senior jewelers with more complicated repairs when needed. Watch Batteries & Basic Watch Service Perform watch battery replacements on everything from basic watches to luxury Swiss and Japanese watch brands . Properly open and close a variety of watch caseback designs. Inspect gaskets and seals during battery replacement. Use appropriate tools and procedures to prevent scratching or damaging watches. Set the time, date, and basic functions after battery replacement. Perform basic watch cleaning as appropriate. Assist with bracelet sizing, link removal/addition, and strap changes. Properly document watches and their condition before beginning service. Recognize watches that should not be opened or serviced in-house and refer them to the appropriate watchmaker or authorized service center. Quality Control Inspect completed work before returning merchandise to the client. Ensure jewelry and watches are clean and presentation-ready after service. Immediately report any damage, unusual condition, or repair concern to management or the jeweler. Follow established procedures when handling high-value or complicated pieces. Customer & Store Support Assist with intake and organization of jewelry and watch repairs. Help prepare completed repairs for customer pickup. Maintain accurate repair documentation. Keep tools, equipment, supplies, and work areas clean and organized. Assist the sales and repair teams as needed during busy periods. Skills & Qualifications Experience with jewelry polishing, jewelry repair, watch batteries, or similar bench work preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with very small components. Excellent attention to detail. Comfortable handling high-value luxury jewelry and watches. Ability to learn proper procedures for different watch brands and case constructions. Ability to use polishing equipment, hand tools, watch case-opening tools, bracelet tools, steamers, ultrasonic cleaners, and related equipment safely. Strong organizational skills. Reliable and able to follow established procedures. Willingness to learn from experienced jewelers and watchmakers.
