Frequent local/regional travel to job sites required Position Summary The Hearth Service Tech is a field-based role responsible for measuring jobs, performing small repairs, troubleshooting gas and electric hearth systems, and completing fireplace start-ups on installed units. The position works directly at customer homes, finished jobs, and active construction sites, serving as the hands-on technical representative of the hearth division and the face of the company on every site visit.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Diagnostics & Repair:
Troubleshoot technical issues related to ignition systems, gas valves, pilot assemblies, venting, and electronic controls using multimeters, manometers, and leak detectors. Perform small repairs on gas and electric hearth products and related components.
Measurement & Job Assessment:
Measure job sites accurately to support quoting, ordering, and installation planning.
Routine Maintenance:
Clean, inspect, and perform safety checks on appliances.
Start-Ups:
Complete fireplace start-ups on newly installed units, verifying safe and proper operation before handoff to the customer.
Customer Service:
Interact directly with homeowners, provide clear explanations of repair findings, initiate system start-ups, and conduct homeowner orientations.
Documentation:
Accurately complete service tickets, track parts used, and maintain detailed service records.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and manufacturer specifications, particularly around gas connections and electrical components. Work Environment & Travel This role requires travel to a variety of job environments, including finished homes, occupied residences with homeowners present, and active construction sites. The technician must communicate professionally with homeowners, builders, and site personnel, representing the company's standards on every visit. Qualifications Preferred Background (one or more): HVAC experience Hearth product / service experience Electrician background or training
General Requirements:
Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting aptitude Comfortable working in a range of environments, including active construction sites and occupied homes Valid driver's license and clean driving record (frequent travel required) Strong customer-facing communication skills and a professional appearance Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and product as needed
