Description
Purpose The Assembly Technician performs the tasks associated with both mechanical and electrical assemblies and sub-assemblies for Rapid Granulator, Inc. This person repairs, builds and prepares industrial machinery at the customer's facility and our Leetsdale Location. This role requires good mechanical aptitude, good computer skills and attention to detail. This role requires physical movement and the use of material handling equipment. This person reports to the Service Manager. The position is based in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania. Duties and Responsibilities Assemble equipment to engineering drawings, schematics, and Rapid Granulator standards. Work is based on warranty or repair orders and production schedules.
Work is performed using hand/electric/pneumatic tools.
Review warranty and repair orders associated with equipment assigned using RGI ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. Planning will help to assist in prioritizing this demand.
Use verbal and written communications to report progress and problems in a professional manner
Estimate cost of repairs
Assist in other assembly needs as required.
After approximately 6 months of training at the Leetsdale facility, the person in this position will be expected to do the following:
Perform on-site visits to RGI customer facilities to conduct system maintenance. The frequency of travel will vary based on business needs, with an average expectation of approximately two weeks per month spent at customer sites. Weekend travel or work is uncommon, and employees can generally expect to be home on weekends.
Travel may include transportation by car and/or airline, depending on the location and requirements of the assignment. The RGI Service Manager will provide guidance and assistance with coordinating travel arrangements as part of the initial training for this role.
Out of pocket expenses such as lodging, meals, and transportation, in relation to Service travel will be reimbursed as reported on a weekly basis.
When not traveling, this position will be based out of the RGI - Leetsdale facility
Skills required This position requires regular interaction with customers and serves as a direct representative of (THE COMPANY). The ideal candidate must communicate effectively and consistently present themselves in a polite, professional manner. They should be comfortable meeting and collaborating with new people on a regular basis. Because this role involves arranging and managing their own travel, strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills are essential. Data entry skills.

Demonstrate good interpersonal skills Qualifications and Work Experience High School Diploma or GED a Specialized associate's degree is a plus
1-3 years of related mechanical and/or electrical assembly work experience desired.
Moderate knowledge of general manufacturing with good mechanical aptitude.
Basic math skills
Must have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Understand knife fixture use
Understand Knife setting and installation
Understand installation of motor, belt tensioning and wiring.
Electrical
Understand the Safety Circuit
Understand and be able to set Safety Relays
Understand the importance of motor overload and how to set them 6 Months Understand 300, 400 and 500 Rotor assemblies, disassembly and bearing replacement.
Understand the operation of the control panel on 300, 400 and 500 machines.
Become familiar with traveling and customer expectations
Become familiar with estimating cost of repairs.
Basic Understanding of Jeeves Functions After 6 Months Scheduling their time and traveling on their own.
Traveling to customers' sites averaging two times a month.
Become increasing familiar with the entire series of Rapid's products to include the OneCut, 150, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 800 and GT1100 Series Machines and the Rapid Line of Roll Feeds.
Physical and Mental Requirements
This role can be physically demanding and requires the ability to perform tasks in a variety of conditions. Responsibilities may include driving for extended periods (approximately 2-7 hours), standing for long durations, applying heavy torque, and handling heavy, sharp knives and other granulator components. The position may also require working in awkward or confined positions, such as kneeling, leaning, or standing on stable surfaces other than a ladder to complete tasks.
Depending on business needs, travel may account for approximately 50% of the role. While the position involves direct customer interaction, much of the work will be performed independently, and the employee should be comfortable working alone and traveling by themselves for extended periods. You will be expected to occasionally (1% to 20% of the time):
Lift objects from one level to another (50 lbs. or less)
Carry objects (30 lbs. or less)
Sit in a normal seated position
Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, etc.
You will be expected to frequently (21% to 50% of the time):
Walking around the facility
Stoop/crouch by bending your legs or bending down/forward at the waist
Extending hands/arms
Add, subtract, multiply, divide and record, balance, and check results for accuracy
You will be expected to constantly (at least 51% of the time):
Standing for extended periods
