Job Title:
Technician Job Description The Technician performs maintenance and repair on generators and commercial HVAC equipment, including diagnostics, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and battery pack removal and replacement. You will work both in the shop and in the field, supporting critical clients such as hospitals and commercial facilities, with an opportunity to start in the shop to learn the equipment and progress into higher-level technician roles. Responsibilities Perform maintenance and repair on generators and commercial HVAC equipment, ensuring reliable and safe operation. Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting on complex electrical and mechanical issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions. Carry out preventative maintenance tasks, including inspections, testing, adjustments, and component replacements to minimize equipment downtime. Remove and replace battery packs and other key components on generators and HVAC units as required. Work in the shop to learn equipment, procedures, and standards, and then transition to field service work as needed. Travel to client sites, including hospitals and commercial facilities, to perform scheduled and emergency service work. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and diagnostic findings in accordance with company procedures. Operate company vehicles safely and maintain a clean driving record while traveling between the shop and client locations. Diagnose complex electrical and mechanical problems in diesel engines, generators, and commercial HVAC systems. Collaborate with team members and leadership to support the growth and development of the location into a flagship facility. Participate in on-call rotation approximately once a month during off hours to respond to urgent service needs. Work a schedule that typically includes 45-50 hours per week to meet customer service and maintenance demands. Essential Skills Hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, specifically diesel engines, generators, or commercial HVAC equipment. Proficiency in HVAC maintenance and preventative maintenance practices. Strong diagnostics and troubleshooting skills for complex electrical and mechanical systems. Ability to diagnose and resolve issues in diesel or heavy equipment maintenance environments. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record suitable for operating company vehicles. Capability to perform battery pack removal and replacement and other mechanical tasks safely and accurately. Comfort working both in a shop environment and on the road at customer sites such as hospitals and commercial buildings. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with diesel or equipment maintenance in a rental or service setting is beneficial. Background in commercial HVAC systems, including service and repair, is a strong asset. Willingness to participate in training and learn new equipment and technologies. Ability to work extended hours, typically 45-50 hours per week, and take part in a monthly on-call rotation. Strong communication skills to interact professionally with customers and team members. Reliability and attention to detail when documenting maintenance and repair activities. Why Work Here? Work Environment You work in a combination of shop and field environments, servicing critical clients such as hospitals and commercial sites. The role involves using tools and diagnostic equipment to maintain and repair generators and commercial HVAC systems. Typical shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 or 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a minimum of 45-50 hours of work per week and an on-call rotation approximately once a month during off hours. The environment is hands-on and fast-paced, with a focus on safety, reliability, and high-quality service. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
