Job Description

Monona Plumbing & Fire Protection is hiring a Sewer & Drain Tech! If you enjoy hands-on work, want to work in the field, solve problems & troubleshooting issues, and you take pride in leaving customers with real solutions, this could be a great fit and we'd love to hear from you. Job Summary The Sewer & Drain Technician will provide sewer and drain cleaning services for both residential and commercial customers, including routine maintenance, emergency service calls, line locating, video inspections, and sewer cleaning. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional customer service. This position requires the use of specialized equipment including cable machines, jetters, locators, and sewer cameras. Technicians will diagnose drain and sewer issues, recommend repair solutions, and help customers prevent future problems through maintenance and education. Key Responsibilities Clean and clear drains and sewer lines Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair drain and sewer line issues Perform line locating and video inspections of sewer systems Identify sewer lines in need of repair or replacement Explain problems, causes, and repair options clearly to customers Prepare written estimates for recommended repairs and services Educate customers on routine drain maintenance and sewer repair solutions Work closely with the Service Coordinator/Dispatcher to support daily operations and scheduling Maintain and protect sewer and drain cleaning machines, tools, and camera equipment Ensure complete clean-up of customer property after services are performed Train and mentor apprentices in sewer and drain service work Deliver professional communication and excellent customer service to build long-term customer relationships Qualifications Knowledge & Experience 1-3 years of residential and/or commercial drain cleaning experience, including working knowledge of drain line methods, tools, and machines Knowledge of drains and sewer lines Previous experience with cabling/jetting of drain lines Previous experience with sewer camera/video inspection Skills & Competencies Familiarity with using smartphones, text messaging, and email; ability to use an iPad and smartphone Effective communication and customer service skills Professional and knowledgeable appearance and demeanor Ability to work independently Strong mechanical skills, including the use of hand tools and sewer and drain cleaning equipment Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex drain issues Physical Requirements Ability to lift sewer and drain machines, and lift 75-100 pounds multiple times a day Operation of sewer and drain machines Ability to work and drive in various weather conditions Physical ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously Other Requirements Valid driver's license with clean record to be insured by the company's insurance Ability to work 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and participate in a rotating on-call schedule for nights and weekends Ability to meet and maintain physical and environmental job requirements Ability to meet and maintain productivity, safety, and quality requirements Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment Keeping company equipment, tools, and vehicle in clean working order
