Job Overview Position is for

Technician/Installer:

Installation and repair of all phases of telecommunications equipment and supporting infrastructures. Candidates must have a working knowledge of Telecommunications Industry Standard of Installation Practices & Procedures. Requires the ability to read, apply, and provide input to equipment drawings and schematics. Must be self-motivated, capable of working with a minimum of direct supervision, and able to work well in both a team and individual environment. Must have excellent attendance records.

Emphasis on safety:

This position requires working aloft on self-supported antenna and guyed antenna towers up to 350 feet tall often in unfavorable weather conditions, sometimes in extremely harsh environment conditions. Must be able to troubleshoot and repair outside plant facilities (fiber-optic cable) including testing and splicing. Acceptance of the following conditions is required: Extended and unexpected travel to all locations within AT&T Alaska network is normal; lodging facilities can be extremely inadequate at times. Tower climbing is required.

Lifting:

50lbs minimum. Minimum 5 years related experience in telecommunications. Knowledge of telecommunications equipment and support infrastructures. Ability to read and apply information from schematics and drawings. Willingness to travel and work in remote areas of Alaska alone or as a team for both short and extended periods. Willingness to be directed to travel to perform work with extremely short notice. Responsibilities Install, configure, and test telecommunication systems including fiber optic networks, structured cabling, Ethernet, Cat5/Cat6 wiring, and low-voltage electrical wiring. Perform fiber splicing and fiber optic systems installation to ensure optimal signal quality and system performance. Troubleshoot equipment issues using diagnostic tools, network testing equipment, and multimeters such as ohmmeters to identify faults quickly. Conduct network wiring and cabling installations for LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), and data center environments using industry standards like NEC codes. Set up and configure networking hardware and other telecommunications equipment. Test radio frequency (RF) signals and perform telecommunications testing to verify system integrity and performance. Maintain detailed documentation of schematics, network diagrams, and installation procedures to ensure compliance with technical standards. Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with clients about system functions, troubleshooting steps, and maintenance needs. Use hand tools and power tools safely during installations or repairs while adhering to safety protocols. Requirements Proven experience as an Installer in telecommunications or related fields with a strong understanding of telecommunication systems. Knowledge of fiber splicing techniques, fiber optic systems installation, and troubleshooting skills. Familiarity with computer networking concepts including Ethernet wiring, network cabling (Cat5/Cat6), LAN/WAN configurations, and structured cabling installation. Experience working with Cisco routers, Juniper devices, Avaya systems, VoIP technology, and telecommunication testing equipment. Ability to read schematics, technical diagrams, and electrical blueprints accurately. Competence in using diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters, cable testers, RF testers, and other telecommunications testing equipment. Electrical experience with AC/DC electrical systems and low-voltage electrical wiring standards (NEC compliant). Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients at all levels of expertise. Physical ability to perform fieldwork including lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
