Day work with occasional nights, maintenance windows, overtime, and emergency restoration work Position Summary AXS Points is seeking an experienced Hardline Coaxial Splicer / Broadband Plant Technician to install, splice, activate, upgrade, and troubleshoot aerial and underground coaxial cable systems. The ideal candidate can work from system designs and construction prints, configure active and passive devices, adjust and balance amplifiers, install or upgrade nodes, and verify that completed plant meets required RF performance standards. This position requires more than basic cable installation experience. Candidates should understand how changes to amplifiers, nodes, passives, and coaxial cable affect the performance of the entire distribution system. Key Responsibilities Splice and repair hardline coaxial cable in aerial and underground environments. Install and replace coaxial connectors, housings, passives, amplifiers, line extenders, power inserters, splitters, directional couplers, taps, and related components. Install, upgrade, activate, and troubleshoot optical nodes and RF distribution equipment. Configure system nodes and amplifier cascades according to engineering designs and specifications. Adjust amplifier gain, slope, equalization, pads, and attenuators to meet system performance requirements. Perform forward-path and return-path balancing. Make plant and RF configuration changes based on system designs, maps, sweep plans, and engineering documentation. Read and interpret coaxial system designs, strand maps, schematics, node boundaries, design levels, and construction prints. Perform node splits, segmentation projects, equipment upgrades, rebuilds, and system capacity improvements. Identify and correct ingress, noise, distortion, signal leakage, impedance issues, damaged cable, and defective active or passive equipment. Conduct sweep testing, signal-level testing, leakage testing, and forward-and-return-path verification. Confirm proper AC voltage, power-passing configuration, and network continuity before activating equipment. Coordinate with construction, fiber, engineering, node operations, and network control personnel. Document amplifier settings, equipment changes, RF measurements, plant configurations, and completed work. Respond to outages, maintenance-window assignments, and emergency restoration events when required. Operate bucket trucks, ladders, cable-splicing tools, and electronic test equipment safely. Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, materials, and company vehicles. Follow company, customer, OSHA, utility, and traffic-control requirements. Required Qualifications At least 3 years of directly related hardline coaxial splicing, plant maintenance, or broadband construction experience . Demonstrated ability to splice and troubleshoot hardline coaxial cable. Experience installing and configuring RF amplifiers, line extenders, optical nodes, and coaxial passives. Working knowledge of forward and return RF paths. Ability to balance amplifier cascades using design specifications and field measurements. Ability to interpret RF design prints, strand maps, schematics, and system level information. Familiarity with HFC architecture, node segmentation, amplifier cascades, power supplies, and coaxial distribution systems. Ability to use signal-level meters, sweep equipment, leakage detectors, multimeters, and related test equipment. Understanding of signal levels, tilt, gain, attenuation, frequency response, ingress, leakage, and distortion. Ability to distinguish field conditions that require a design correction, equipment change, or engineering review. Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with supervisors, engineers, customers, and other field teams. Valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the company. Ability to safely operate or qualify to operate a bucket truck and tow equipment. Ability to lift and handle coaxial cable, housings, ladders, and related field equipment. Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and occasionally work nights, weekends, or emergency assignments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with DOCSIS and modern HFC network architecture. Experience with node splits, mid-splits, high-splits, or system rebuilds. Experience working with CommScope, Cisco, Harmonic, ATX, or comparable broadband equipment. Experience with 750 MHz, 860 MHz, 1 GHz, or 1.2 GHz coaxial systems. Experience troubleshooting ingress and return-path noise. Bucket-truck, aerial-lift, traffic-control, OSHA, or first-aid/CPR training. Fiber-optic splicing or optical-node troubleshooting experience is a plus. Manufacturer or cable-system technical certifications are beneficial but not required. Lessened to operate medium-sized trucks, vehicles within the 16,001 to 26,001-pound range.
