POSITION SUMMARY

The Field Survey Technician gathers field data used for the engineering and design of aerial, underground, and buried fiber optic facilities. This position performs field inspections, route surveys, and data collection activities while supporting project documentation and administrative requirements. The role requires frequent travel and may progress into more advanced engineering and field-data collection responsibilities based on experience, skill level, and business needs .

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform field inspections and surveys of poles, handholes, manholes, pedestals, building entrances, and proposed fiber routes while documenting conditions, violations, and make-ready requirements. Collect, verify, and document field data required for aerial and underground fiber designs, pole attachment applications, buried-facility applications, and outside plant route selection. Use survey tools and technology to gather accurate project information and support engineering, construction, and design activities. Prepare project documentation, field reports, and time records while supporting project administration and tracking requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Entry-level telecommunications outside plant engineering experience is preferred but not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work independently and collaboratively in field, office, and remote environments. Knowledge of telecommunications outside plant construction practices, plans, drawings, and survey methodologies is preferred. Familiarity with survey equipment and technology such as GPS devices, laser range finders, and measuring tools is preferred. Ability to create clear reports, maintain project tracking information, and communicate findings effectively. AutoCAD or similar drafting software experience is a plus.

OSHA 10, OSHA

30, CPR, and First Aid certifications are preferred but not required. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. The role regularly requires sitting, communicating, and using a computer and other office equipment. The employee may occasionally stand, walk, reach, bend, and lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Work may be performed in an office, remotely, or in a warehouse, yard, or field environment, with occasional travel to company or vendor locations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires frequent travel throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as overnight travel nationwide as business needs require.
